NEWS CENTER – On the day of the 10th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, a dozen of people came together in the north of Brazil in the city of Parnaiba to form a group of studies into the Kurdish question. The goal of the group is deepen the understandings on the subject, create contacts, translate materials and share the paradigm of the People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan. The name of the group is based on Alina Sanchez, the first Latin American internationalist that came to Kurdistan and joined the freedom struggle.
They shared a statement that can be read as it follows:
“Last Tuesday, July 19, during the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, the Alina Sanchez Study Group was founded in Parnaíba-PI, as part of the event “10 years of the Rojava victory: the legacy of the Kurdish struggle”. Throughout the activity, we discussed the history of the Kurdish struggle, the life of comrade Abdullah Öcalan, the International Conspiracy against him, and the development of Democratic Confederatism. In addition, we talked about the struggle of Kurdish women and the powerful example offered by their practice in self-defense and in managing society and life. We also showed the short film “Support the struggle for freedom in Kurdistan”, and reflected from it on the violence imposed by the Turkish fascist state and the limitations that the media and bourgeois media platforms impose on the Kurdish people, preventing denunciations and the creation of networks of solidarity with their struggle for life. We also launched the work “About my prison life on the island of Imrali”. The book is a letter from Öcalan to the European Court of Human Rights denouncing the violence he is subjected to in the Turkish island-prison, and tells readers about his life and resistance inside Imrali.
The Alina Sánchez Study Group will develop activities of propaganda and support for the Kurdish cause, in addition to creating bridges and analysis of the Brazilian reality from the paradigm of Democratic Confederationism and the social experience that is developed in the heart of the Middle East, expressed in actions of self-determination of peoples, self-defense, jineologî, social ecology, health, justice, among others. Soon we will make available the schedule of activities, as well as dates for the foundation of the Alina Sánchez Study Group in other cities of the country. We greatly appreciate the participation of all in this event, as well as the desire to build and support the Group, which for us is a fundamental part in strengthening the ties between the struggles of Brazil and Latin America with Kurdistan.”
