NEWS CENTER – PYD Co-Presidential Council member Aldar Xelil spoke to our agency about the Rojava revolution that started on July 19, 2012 and gave hope to all the people of the world. Aldar Xelil, a member of the PYD Co-Chairmanship Council, started his speech by describing the People’s Spring process. Aldar Xelil said, “The People’s Spring process started in 2010 in a wide way. It started from Tunisia and continued to other countries. At that time there was a hope among the people, because now changes are happening, they can change the Regime system. Everything is now the opposite of the previous situations. But in those changes before that, especially in the 2010s, in 2003, the changes were made through foreign military intervention and changes were made. But in the years 2010 and later, the people stood up and such changes took place, which made a difference from other processes.”
‘WE HAD A DEMOCRATIC PROJECT’
Aldar Khalil explained that other revolutions that occurred in Syria could not succeed because they did not have a democratic project and said; “In the Middle East itself, the People’s Spring process began in a wide way in 2010. It started from Tunisia and continued to other countries. At that time, there was hope among the people, because now changes are happening, they can change the Regime system. Everything is now the opposite of the previous situation, the regime of Iraq was changing, then there were changes in Afghanistan. military was carried out and changes were taking place. But in the years 2010 and later, the people rose up and such changes took place, this created a difference from other processes. Once again, the hope of the people of the Middle East arose that they could save themselves from these occupying forces. and be able to build their own systems. The People’s Spring has indeed started, but a leading force that can organize these peoples, a democratic project, a project that can fulfill the people’s wishes, such a person did not emerge. The people’s hopes were really born, the people rose up. many regimes were overthrown, changes took place in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. However, with those changes, it was not complete after that. Indeed, the regimes were overthrown, but there was no alternative, because there was no democratic project. Only the atmosphere of change was created. When it started in Syria in 2011, everyone imagined that the regime would go down like other countries and after that new things would emerge. But our movement, both the youth movement and the women’s organization, all our political parties and other organizations, as a movement in general, we had a vision and a project. Our project did not only come out in those years, actually, for many years before that, work was carried out to build a democratic and free society.”
‘THOSE WHO PROMOTED THE PROCESS WERE THE YOUNG PEOPLE’
Aldar Khalil continued his evaluation in this way; “Before the process of 2011, a secret work was done, organizing among the people was carried out in a secret way. When there was an opportunity to expand the work even more, then the youth actively, among all the youth of the region, as the Kurdish youth , Arabs, Syrians and many other young people, started to organize themselves. Those who led the activities and organization were young people. Both from the side of mobilizing the people, and from the side of establishing the People’s Defense Units, as well as in all the institutions that should be in to develop the revolution, young people took the lead in it. Because there was a democratic project before, there were people to take the lead, the work that was carried out in Rojava was different from the work that was carried out in the same process in the Syrian regions. Other areas the people of Syria were just going to the streets and saying that the regime should go. They were calling Bashar al-Assad’s regime to leave here. As it happened in Tunisia and other places, let it happen here too. But someone from or they didn’t say what the solution was. In those other countries, when the change happened, Ikhwan Al-Muslimeen and the Tundra forces seized power and took the revolution into their hands. Here, in order to prevent this from happening in Syria, this organization started especially in Rojava Kurdistan. Western regions and its centers. Because of our previous organization among the Kurdish people, it existed in the Kurdish regions. In other words, in those years, there was still an organization among the Kurdish people, but there was no such organization as a basis among the other groups, there were only tight relations.
‘YOUTH CHANGE THE COLOR OF ACTIVITIES’
“During this process, the youth reached out to everyone, the shows that were held, its slogans, its organization and its goals were different. For example, among other forces, when they were protesting, on Friday, they held the hours of the Miskeft speech. This its letter is clear, regardless of who organizes it, or wants to take advantage of it. But our people have differentiated their demonstrations, starting from freedom squares, starting from areas and neighborhoods. For this reason, the role of youth in leadership was very important. In fact, all parts of the society were involved. In these years, the secret forces who wanted to make the revolution for themselves, played many games on the youth. As with money, with different games, they attracted the youth of the region to their side, and the youth joined. They made their own shows. But when the youth movement in Rojava organized itself and developed itself, they were able to change their methods of activities and opinions. Now we, as a movement in general, came to the square and our definition for a different revolution was defined. continued like this until July 19, 2012.”
‘WE WORKED TO BUILD A DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM’
“On July 19, 2012, the situation of the regime had reached a very serious crisis, and the regime was going to be destroyed immediately. In addition, the interference of the Turks, their affiliated groups and the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to take advantage of that time. take over the Rojava region as well. This plan was also the plan of the Turks. But due to early warning, strong organization and the presence of leaders, we were able to prevent these plans, and now save these areas. On the one hand, we wanted to first take the power outside and on the other hand we will build our democratic system. In order to build our democratic system, it is important to have security, stability, and an opportunity to be able to organize, at the same time the regime In this way, the first region in Kobanê, after long discussions and the situation was evaluated, it was decided to start from Kobanê on July 19. After that, the regions of Rojava Kurdistan will be divided one by one, region by region, village by village. The villages were saved from the regime done.”
‘YOUTH RISE WITH A MAIN ROLE IN EVERY FIELD’
“During the liberation process, there was a plan until it came to us, we will not put forward the armed side, we will win with the power of the people. The nation should rise up, women, youth and other sections of the society should go to the regime’s places, in order to get them out of the region. However, there is also the fact that the institutions of the regime did not accept to leave their place quickly, so they resisted in some places. At that time, as a precaution, every time the people went to a youth area there, from In addition to their main role in organizing, the youth formed the People’s Protection Units. At that time, their name was not People’s Protection Units, but they were called that. , they intervened immediately. Martyrs were also killed in this way, they were killed by the regime. But when the regime saw it, the people almost came to their senses, they saw that the people had organized themselves and defended themselves, so at that time it was inevitable They were left to leave their place and in this way the entire region was liberated We and then the security and development of all the regions came into the hands of the movement. Both for its organization and for its life needs, the movement will fulfill its duties.”
‘During the years of the revolution, great achievements were made’
“On this basis, 10 years have passed since the revolution, from July 19, 2012 until now, 10 years have been completed. During these 10 years, great achievements have been made. In these 10 years, organization has also been done. Strengthened. The people and other entities also joined this revolution, the culture of the Democratic Nation was also spread. Also, women came forward in a very active way. The young people at that time, from the situation of only the perspective of politicians and elders, who show themselves as different leaders Against that, the youth also strengthened their organization, so that they too could be leaders and have a role. Not only in the military aspect, they developed themselves in all aspects. The opinion that says that the youth are only for military service is not wrong. , because the young people have the vision of the future, they have the project of the future. On this basis, the young people have now taken their place in all fields. The young people have taken their place in the administration, councils, communes and military fields.”
‘THE WESTERN REVOLUTION BECAME A NATIONAL REVOLUTION’
“In this way, it became a revolution in which every component took its place. Now this revolution has crossed the borders of Rojava Kurdistan, it has brought all the regions of North-East Syria under its organization. It was also able to protect all the areas in the military aspect as well. ISIS, which no one could stand against, with the power of our society as a whole, especially the power of the youth, ISIS will be defeated. This was the reason that the whole world heard about the Rojava revolution and its friends increased. It opened the way. that different young people from Western countries or international personalities come and join the revolution. Even today, many of them have become our martyrs, at the same time, some of them are leading in our activities.”
Aldar Khalil, a member of the PYD Co-Presidential Council, concluded his evaluation in this way;
“In this revolution, women and youth became leaders, this revolution became an example of the democratic system in the Middle East. We believe that after these 10 years, a great experience was gained, and on this basis, this revolution be an example for the entire region of Syria. Not only for Syria, it will be an example for the entire Middle East. There is no doubt that this is true, the Turkish state, in order to prevent this, attacks and invades without interruption. , is threatening. Because it is afraid that the democratic project will advance under the leadership of the Kurds. Because the Kurds took the lead for the democratic project and were able to bring other peoples into this project. That is why the Turkish state is making serious threats. especially after occupying some regions of Syria and Rojava Kurdistan, such as Jarablus, Azaz and Bab, then he moved to Afrin, Girê Spî and Serê Kani. Now he is threatening to attack other areas as well, he never wants this revolution continue and thrive.Essentially in the early days most people or so they say; “Yes, you say you have made a revolution, but you don’t last 6 months”, not only 6 months but 10 years have passed, and day by day this administration is growing and developing. This revolution is a hope for all oppressed peoples, and all free peoples today take this revolution as an example.”
