NEWS CENTER – On June 15, 2021, an operation was launched in the Baziya area of Avaşin province. The guerrillas inflicted heavy casualties on the occupier forces in the area of Martyr Suleiman Hill and Giran Giran within two days. The occupying army, after its defeat in those areas, had already surrendered to the battle tunnels on the Red Hill. When the invaders reached the Red Hill they faced an unprecedented resistance. The Turkish army has used chemical and poison gas hundreds of times over the Red Hill tunnels for more than two months, using airstrikes and explosives hundreds of times. The Red Hill tunnel battles have witnessed so many immoral battles that have never been seen in the history of war. Despite all the immoral war crimes, the Red Hill fedayeen guerrillas acted dozens of times against the occupying forces and did not allow the soldiers to enter their tunnels.
In the recent history of mankind in 1942, there were two Czechoslovak heroes named Jan Kubis and Josef Gabchik. The two Czech fighters carried out an assassination operation against the bloodiest Nazi general Reinhard Hedyrich, known as the Prague butcher. This action of theirs was one of the most effective actions against the Nazis in World War II. But their heroism was more hidden in their selfless resistance than this successful act of assassination. In the aftermath of these events, these two parties along with 5 of their other friends are surrounded in a church and wage a great war. Nazi soldiers do not allow them to enter the besieged church. Five of them lost their lives after a fierce battle and the last two of them were trapped in a church room; Jan Kubis and Josef Gabchik. After the Nazi soldiers could not enter, they first injected poison gas and then water. They end their lives in order not to fall into the hands of the fascists. Those 7 fighters were killed there, but the one who later lost was Hitler’s fascism. Thousands of articles, dozens of documentaries and some films have been made about this event. But the important thing here is that even though all seven fighters lost their lives, history has recorded this resistance as a successful and effective resistance.
No one survived this resistance, it is not known exactly what happened in that resistance in the church of the Czech country but some with documents some with the power of imagination this story has come to our present day. From the 7 Prague protesters who lost their lives in the war against the Nazi soldiers we cross over to the 7 fighters on Red Hill.
The 3 guerrillas who survived the tunnel battle of the Red Hill made the world feel a great deal of resistance. The 3 guerrillas along with the 7 guerrillas who lost their lives took part in the resistance on Red Hill and told the world all the details of this epic experience. There are undoubtedly thousands of examples of heroism in the 40 years of the history of the freedom struggle, the Resistance in Sur and Nusaybin, the resistance in Kobanê and thousands of egalitarian resistances. All without precedent. But in the Red Hill, the limit of human will in the reality of the freedom guerrillas was crossed once again. Fighting of the same magnitude was again demonstrated in the areas of Gare, Zendura, Mam Reşo and Aris Faris.
Ten guerrillas, 82 days old, showed great resistance in the tunnels known as war temples. The HPG repeatedly mentioned the use of chemical weapons during his war. In other words, the Turkish army used chemical weapons on all fronts. The Turkish army had already killed all its captive members of the guerrillas in Gare with chemical weapons. In the battle in the battle tunnels of the Red Hill, 3 guerrillas after 7 of their comrades lost their lives decided to leave the battle tunnels. Some of them insist on staying with their peers until the end. But they decide to leave the tunnels because of the heroism shown here and the experience of the players here.
They make decisions, try and get out of there alive despite a big siege. But the important thing here is for their goal to get out of here to let the world know how a resurrection has taken place in this tunnel in 82 days, how a war has been waged. 10 freedom fighters have been fighting against an army of tens of thousands of soldiers, planes, explosives, under sleepless conditions, hunger, thirst, exhaustion for almost 3 months. It is clear that there are no examples of such resistance in the history of the world. As they say, no explosive was detonated against them, no weapon was tested anymore. But despite all these attacks, bombings and chemical gas, they are waging a great war inside these tunnels and inflicting heavy losses on the Turkish army. As a result of 82 days of resistance in the Avaşin area of the Red Hill, 7 guerrillas lost their lives as a result of chemical weapons; Fatma Balica alias Özgür Bagok from Nusaybin, Serdar Dinç alias Serhildan Mordem from Van, Hasan Emcur alias Argeş Botan from ŞŞrnak, Celal Özcan alias Botan Özgür from Van, Rama Şemdin alias Zinarînn Welat De Hesek Al-Qamishli from Al-Qamishli, Firat Şahin alias Baz Gever from Hakkari. Who knows how many movies, documentaries and novels will be written about this epic in the future…
