NEWS CENTER – On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Center announced thwarting an infiltration attempt by Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions west of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa.
The Turkish-backed factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), tried to infiltrate the village of Kor Hassan in the western countryside of Tel Abyad, following intensive artillery shelling and fierce clashes between the SDF and SNA, according to the SDF Press Center.
As a result, an SNA member was killed and another was wounded, while the rest managed to flee, according to the center.
On June 1, Turkish forces and the affiliated SNA factions targeted villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad with heavy weapons.
This comes in tandem with successive Turkish statements to launch a military operation against north Syria. In a speech after charring a government meeting on June 27, Turkish fascist leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed threats to launch a new military operation in northern Syria.
On June 1, Erdogan renewed his threats of launching a military operation on northern Syria, and specified his targets in the two Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat, which include many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Turkish-occupied Afrin.
On May 25, Turkey’s National Security Council said that Turkey’s “existing and future military operations along its southern borders were necessary for the country’s security.” In the meeting, Erdogan delivered a speech to the MPs of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and said, “Turkish military would continue to rid its neighbor of terrorists” refers to the SDF.
On June 11, al-Bab Military Council, which is affiliated with the SDF, announced thwarting an infiltration attempt by members of Turkish-backed SNA factions in the village of al-Hota west of Manbij, a city northern Syria.
