ECUADOR – Since the early hours of the morning, several social organizations gathered to close state highways as a form of protest. Social organizations suspended the passage on the roads during the demonstrations, since the early hours of this Monday, June 13, 2022. Participants gathered in some state highways of Ecuador and suspended vehicular traffic. Representatives of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) demanded that the government meet 10 requirements.
The indigenous organization exposed 10 requests and said that the protest is carried out until their requests are heard. Among the points was the reduction of fuel prices, moratorium on debt payment, fair prices for agricultural products and budget for health and education, among others.
In its statement, Conaie points out: “The Government deceived and the Minister of Government declared that he did not know what they were asking for. That is why they ratify their call for mobilizations that will begin at 00:00 this Monday, June 13, 2022″.
Roads in at least six provinces of the country were closed at dawn by groups of demonstrators who joined the national strike called by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), according to reports from the National Risk Service and ECU911.
- In Tungurahua, the roads Ambato-Quito, at the entrance to Cotopaxi National Park, and Baños-Puyo, in the sector of Té Zulay, at the entrance to Madre Tierra, are closed.
- In Pastaza, the Puyo-Mera road, in the Té Zulay sector; Puyo-Macas, at Km 51 Tsuraku; and Puyo-Santa Clara-Tena, in the Rey de Oriente sector; in Chimborazo, the Riobamba-Pallatanga-Guayaquil road, in the Pangor sector; Riobamba-Guamote-Alausí-Chunchi-Cuenca, which covers the areas of Guano, Colta laguna de Colta, Columbe San Martín and Alausí La Moya.
- In Cotopaxi, the Latacunga-Quito road, at the entrance to Cotopaxi National Park.
- In Pichincha, the Intervalles-Ruta Viva; Cusubamba-Cayambe; Guayllabamba-Calderón; and Tabacundo-Cajas sections.
- In Azuay, the Cumbe-Jarata-Oña road. The Molleturo-Naranjal highway was closed tonight due to a demonstration in the Hierba Buena sector.
- There were also closures of short stretches in El Oro, Los Ríos, Guayas and Santa Elena, which were controlled by the public forces.
