NEWS CENTER – Director Derya Deniz’s first documentary film Hêza won an award at the 4th Film in Focus International Film Festival, where dozens of films and documentaries from around the world participated.
The documentary Hêza had previously received awards for best documentary at the Boden International Film Festival in Sweden, outstanding achievement at the Druk International Film Festival in Bhutan, South Asia, and best documentary at the Los Angeles Independent Women’s Film Awards Festival.
With the best documentary award at the Film in Focus Festival, Hêza has won the award for the 4th time.
Hêza tells the story of an Yazidi woman who was captured during the ISIS attack on Sinjar, managed to escape a year later with the help of a Kurdish family, and commanded the women’s unit fighting against ISIS in Reqa. Director Derya Deniz said that she dedicated all the awards to the Kurdish people, Yazidis and especially the women of Sinjar, who are going through difficult times and are in a state of resistance.
The documentary Hêza will participate in international festivals in Italy, Portugal, Germany, Israel, the USA and the UK in July and August.
