SULEIMANIYA – The body of political refugee and patriotic Zeki Çelebi from Bakure Kurdistan, who was killed in the armed attack in Silêmanî, was taken from the morgue in Silêmanî. Afterwards, he was greeted by his family, activists, artists and patriots on Bahtiyar Street in Silêmanî. The funeral was then brought to Ahmed Haji Ali Mosque and sent off to Wan. People present in the occasion chanted “Death to treason” and “PKK Revenge!”
Photographs of People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and Zeki Çelebi were carried during the welcome, where slogans of “PKK Tolhildan” and “Martyr Namirin” were shouted. Artist Aware Kirkuk also sang for Zeki Çelebi here.
‘Zeki’s comrades will continue his struggle’
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Member and Mesopotamia Workers’ Association President Müslüm Kaplan Çelebi said, “The enemy should know well that the struggle of Martyr Zeki will continue with his comrades and reach its goal. His aim was the freedom of the Kurdish people and the destruction of the enemy. But unfortunately, he was murdered by those who claimed to be Kurds and left themselves in the hands of the enemy.”
Finally, Müslüm Kaplan said, “We HDP supporters and democracy revolutionaries will continue to walk on the same path until the last drop of our blood. Massacres and attacks cannot break the will of the Kurdish people,” he said.
Afterwards, Imam Nadir Ali made a speech and said: “Martyr Zeki served for Sulaymaniyah. Martyr Zeki saw himself as the people of Süleymaniye. It is a shame that dozens of vehicles and security forces go out on the streets even when a salary is being demanded in this city, but nothing is done while Zeki is martyred in front of the public and cameras. The perpetrators have still not been found. Someone did it like pulling a hair out of butter. It is the government’s job to find the perpetrators, if they don’t they will live in shame until they die.”
After the religious ceremony, Çelebi’s body was sent off to Bakure Kurdistan to be buried in the city of Van.

Before the armed attack, Yurtsever Zeki Çelebi was sought many times by the invading Turkish MİT and was forced to act as a spy. Çelebi, who was also threatened with his family, refused these impositions of the MIT. Zeki Çelebi, who attended the program on Medya Haber TV with some of his friends after the martyrdom of Yasin Bulut (Şükrü Serhed), a member of the PKK Martyrs’ Families Committee, said: “We have been called dozens of times by MIT, we are threatened with our families. They are forcing us to surrender. The enemy is trapped in the mountains of Kurdistan and he uses dirty methods because he realizes that he will not achieve anything.”
