NEWS CENTER – YPJ General Command made a statement on the 9th anniversary of the martyrdom of Martyr Silava and Martyr Bêrîvan.
The following were recorded in the statement:
“The Rojava Revolution grew at great cost thanks to the labor and struggle of thousands of women and reached the women of the whole world. This revolution was realized with the blood of thousands of martyrs to whom we are always indebted. We commemorate our comrades Silava and Bêrîvan, our first martyrs, on the 9th anniversary of their martyrdom. May is the month of martyrs for the struggle of the Kurdish people. We commemorate all the martyrs of May, the martyrs of freedom and the Rojava Revolution in the person of the revolutionary women Leyla Qasim, Şirin Elemhuli and Gurbet Aydın, and we pledge to grow and protect the revolution. YPJ forces have reached this day through labor and struggle.
Women won their identity with a great will
When women’s identity was eliminated in the Middle East, with the Rojava Revolution, under the courageous leadership of our comrades Silava and Bêrîvan, women gained their identity with a great will. She saw her strength and will in the struggle for freedom, and she used this gem in Rojava to build the excitement of freedom in Northern and Eastern Syria with Kurdish, Armenian, Assyrian, Arab and Assyrian women. On this basis, the YPJ army built the paradigm of the democratic nation and conveyed it to the women of the world and to dozens of Ernetnationalist fighters who saw and joined the YPJ.
Silava and Bêrîvan joined the revolution without hesitation
Our comrades Silava Efrîn and Bêrîvan Qelender, who are from the city of Efrîn, joined the Rojava Revolution when it began, without hesitation and with the determination of victory. They became the vanguard of the Rojava Revolution with labor, sacrifice and belief in revolution and freedom. In 2013, they resisted the attacks of the gangs who wanted to occupy Afrin and fought from front to front to protect their country’s territory. Comrade Bêrîvan was martyred on May 28 and comrade Silava on May 29, 2013. Their martyrdom became a great example for us and strengthened the struggle for freedom. In this context, YPJ forces are stronger than ever in the light of the philosophy of freedom on the 10th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.
We will grow our revolution
On this historic day for our people and the peoples of the region, our duties and responsibilities as YPJ are also great. With this memory and consciousness, we will walk the path determined by our martyrs without hesitation. We will never step back against threats and all kinds of attacks against our revolution, and we will further grow our struggle for freedom. We promise once again to all our martyrs in the person of our comrades Bêrîvan and Silava that we will grow and protect our revolution.”
