BEHDÎNAN – The press center of the People’s Defense Units HPG published the names of the guerrilla fighters Viyan Botan and Eylem Ronî who died in the resistance against the occupation invasion of the fascist AKP-MHP regime and its supporters in the Zap resistance area in the south of Kurdistan.
The press center of HPG informs the following in a written statement:
“The people of Kurdistan are approaching victory step by step in the revolutionary people’s war. The Turkish colonial state wants to prevent this victory and is carrying out a new occupation operation in Kurdistan. The last full-scale invasion started on April 14. The biggest answer to this attack is given by the free and brave women of YJA Star. In the Zap, the masterful tactics, great courage, attachment to sacred values and belief in victory of the YJA Star fighters has been proven once again. The YJA Star leads the mobile guerrilla units, deals the most effective blows to the enemy and does not let the occupiers through. Our comrades Viyan and Eylem were among the exquisite commanders and militants of the YJA Star and fell in this fight. Their attitude, willingness to fight, courage and selflessness show us the way as their comrades and will forever be a reason for retaliation and victory.”

VIYAN BOTAN
Viyan Botan was born in Cizîr in northern Kurdistan. Her family was patriotic and Viyan knew the PKK and the guerrillas as a child. She grew up knowing that the Turkish colonial state was waging a campaign of annihilation against the Kurdish people and that it had to be actively fought against. The guerrilla was a childhood dream for her, which she fulfilled in 2014. She assessed her joining the guerrillas as a rebirth herself. She stayed in the areas of Cûdî, Qendîl and Zap and continued her education. Her aspiration was to be a free woman. She spent the longest period of her guerrilla life in the Zap region. There she participated in many successful actions against the enemy. In the course of the Turkish invasion last year, she participated in the resistance at the command level. She showed the same courageous attitude in this year’s occupation attacks. Together with her comrade Eylem, she prevented several attempts to land from the air, the Turkish occupation army at Tepê Şehîd Şahin and carried out one attack after another. The two guerrillas managed to make the enemy troops retreat from the area for a while. The HPG named Viyan Botan as one of the heroines and commanders of the Zap resistance.
EYLEM RONÎ
Eylem Ronî was born in Kobanê in Rojava. Her family was patriotic, but she herself only learned about the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 2014 during the battle for Kobanê. The determined resistance of the fighters against the IS gangs left a formative impression on her. Above all, she was impressed by the fact that women took up arms and courageously opposed the IS gangs. In 2017, she went to the mountains to join the guerrillas, armed to fight for freedom herself. “In the mountains of Kurdistan, seeds of a new life sprouted on the basis of women’s liberation, and our companion Eylem also became one of the offspring of this life,” HPG explains of the young fighter’s development in her early days with the guerrillas. Eylem became a determined militant of the women’s liberation ideology and completed specialized military training. She proved her learned skills in the guerrilla tactics of the new era in numerous actions against the enemy forces. Together with Viyan Botan, she intervened against the Turkish occupation attacks from the first moment of the invasion, establishing the character of the Zap resistance.
HPG expresses its condolences to the families and patriotic people and declares that the struggle of the fallen will continue.
