RIHA – The “Justice Vigil” of the Şanyaşar Family has been going on for 434 days. The attack took place in the Suruç district of Urfa in Turkey on 14 June 2018, just before the local elections, while deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız and those accompanying him were visiting shops in Suruç as part of their election campaign. A dispute arose after the shop owner, Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, asked them to leave his shop.
Mehmet Şah Yıldız from the family of the AKP deputy also lost his life during the incident and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called Şenyaşar’s family ‘terrorists’.Ferit Şenyaşar stated that AKP-MHP Halbrahim Halil Yildiz had planned to kill his father and brothers in the hospital and demanded that a parliamentary letter be sent to the parliament immediately.
The Justice Vigil of Şenyaşar’s family continues in front of the Urfa Courthouse on the 434th day. Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came to the court in the early hours of the morning and started their vigil.
Ferit Şenyaşar spoke about their vigil and said: “An organized massacre took place at the Suruç State Hospital. We have been saying this since the beginning of our vigil. After 4 years the brother of the parliamentarian who organized the massacre was arrested. There are 2 people who organized the massacre. One of them is MP Halbrahim Halil Yildiz and one of them is Yildiz. In his recent detention the parliamentary adviser also says this in his statements; the person who took us to the hospital was our parliamentarian. We went to the hospital with his arrest ’. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there.”
Ferit called for Ybrahim Yildiz’s resignation to be submitted to parliament immediately and said that they would continue their vigil until justice was done.
Yaenyaşar’s family tagged the official parliamentary account on their social media account and shared it: “Our vigil for justice continues on the 434th day. One of the organizers of the massacre was arrested. “One of them is still in parliament. His candidacy will go to parliament in the near future.”
