CHILE – A Mapuche organization claimed the responsibility on the attack of a police chekcpoint in Quidico and the sabotage on a private Hotel, the Curef Hotel. The Mapuche conflict involves indigenous Mapuche communities located in Araucanía and nearby regions of Chile and Argentina. It is often referred to as a conflict between the Mapuche and the Chilean government or state. Big forestry companies and their contractors, Chilean police and some non-indigenous landowners have been confronted by militant Mapuche organizations and local Mapuche communities in the context of the conflict.
The statement of Mapuche Lavkenche Resistance can be read as it follows:
“To our Mapuche nation people, to the public opinion in general, the Mapuche Lavkenche Resistance (RML) declares:
As RML we vindicate the armed attack on the police checkpoint of Quidico and the burning of the Curef hotel located 20 meters from this police point, action carried out simultaneously by a column of 40 weichave in the early morning of Friday, May 13.
This action is the response to the covert militarization that the Boric government has increased in Wallmapu after the end of the state of emergency. With this we also make it clear to the government that there will be no aggression without response, even more so when it has systematically refused to respond to the demands of the Mapuche political prisoners and their families, endorsing the new policy of punishment of the judiciary such as sending our prisoners to prisons further away from their territories. As we have said in previous statements, the government must give clear signals if it longs so much for peace and that aims to resolve the demands of the PPMs currently held in various prisons installed in Wallmapu.
We know that Boric has left in the hands of the Socialist Party the implementation of the new repressive policies under the slogan of organized crime, directed by the Undersecretary of Interior, Manuel Monsalve and in Arauco by the new presidential delegate, Humberto Toro, the same who was responsible for the repression in the second government of Bachelet. We do not forget Toro, the same one who endorsed the armed attack by carabineros in 2014 in Huentelolen that left 11 Mapuche community members wounded by bullets in the Rihue Alto estate, today recovered and controlled by the Lov Mapuche of this territory.
That is why our tralkas and kütral today do Mapuche justice with our ancestors, advancing step by step in the expulsion of the racist and usurping winkas. To the poor and humble people of Quidico we say that our struggle is not against them, but against those who for years have profited from our territory.
Attacking the Hotel Curef also meant the definitive expulsion of Fernando Fuentealba from our territory. This anti-Mapuche character has dedicated himself for years to denigrate the Mapuche Resistance and today he has a political career as president of the “Agrupación de Víctimas del Terrorismo” (Association of Victims of Terrorism). We remind you that Quidico is Mapuche land, that there was a military fort here during the Chilean invasion in the 19th century, where even ancient kiuvikecheyem were kidnapped and taken to Europe as war trophies, shackled and humiliated.
-Immediate transfer to Lebu prison for Alex Manriquez Maril, Robinson Parra, Esteban Carrera and Yerko Maril.
-Nullity, fair trial and freedom for the PPMs of Elikura.
-Freedom for all PPMs.
-Out with the forestry companies, Fuentealba and all capitalist expression of Wallmapu.
-In memory of Lemuel Fernandez, Samy Llebul and all the fallen in the weichan.
