CENTRAL NEWS – Internationalists present in Rojava under the Make Rojava Green Again initiative have sent a video-message in solidarity and call to the internationalist youth who will participate in the International Festival tomorrow in Lützerath.

The open call to the festival can be read as it follows:

Unite struggles – overcome capitalism!

One look at the news is enough to realize that our world is on the brink. Fascist and nationalist movements are on the rise in many places, war is depriving millions of people of their homes and the destruction of the natural foundations of life is progressing seemingly unstoppably. The capitalist economy, with its insatiable pursuit of maximum profit, has led humanity and nature into catastrophe and today threatens to plunge life on this planet into ruin.

But in all corners of the world there is resistance against the life-hostile system. The past few years have seen a worldwide upsurge of movements seeking new ways out of the crisis. Day by day the awareness is growing that it is not enough to fight only the excesses of a wrong system, but that only a global change can open a way out of the catastrophe. Especially the climate change and the ecological catastrophe make it more than clear that we have no time to lose. That the fate of humanity and this planet will be decided in the 21st century is today not an assertion but a scientifically proven fact.

With the actions of the past years, the young climate justice movement has succeeded in setting the agenda in many places and in opposing the politics of destruction with active resistance. Millions of young people around the world have taken to the streets to fight for their right to a future worth living. With the forest occupations, climate camps and today the village resistance around Lützerath, places of common exchange, networking and organization were created and other forms of living together were tried out in practice.

But it is also clear that this is not enough and that the previous practice has reached its limits. The question of an overall social perspective, of linking the struggles and building lasting structures, is pressing. If we wait for the necessary change to be given from above, we will be bitterly disappointed. A different world can only be fought for and built in a self-determined way and from below.

In this regard, the revolution of Rojava and Northern and Eastern Syria, is an important reference point and glimmer of hope. For almost 10 years, the people there have been building a self-governing social system and taking their lives into their own hands. The proposal of Democratic Confederalism, which is based on women’s liberation, grassroots self-management and an ecological and needs-based economy, represents for us a concrete answer to many of the most urgent problems facing humanity. Rojava is the practical proof that the other world we dream of does not have to remain a utopia, but can become a lived reality today.

In order to build this alternative we need to come together, get to know each other, exchange ideas and create a common culture of resistance. Therefore we invite you to come with us to Lützerath on May 28th and make the Internationalist Youth Festival a moment of common departure.

Come all to Lützerath on May 28, 2022! We are looking forward to seeing you!
