LONDON – ASLEF called for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan at this year’s congress held in Bournemouth, England.
At the congress of the union, which has more than 25 thousand members, the delegates carried posters of the Kurdish People’s Leader and said in unison “Freedom for Öcalan”.
Speaking at the congress, ASLEF Executive Board member Marz Colombini said, “Öcalan has been imprisoned since 1999. He has been held in aggravated isolation for almost a quarter of a century. He has a lot of similarities with Nelson Mandella. As ASLEF, we were involved in the freedom campaign for Öcalan, and as part of this campaign, we are removing Öcalan’s posters to show solidarity with Öcalan and the Kurdish people.”
The delegates then posed for photos with posters of Abdullah Öcalan.
Various union leaders, deputies and representatives of non-governmental organizations were also present at the congress.
