NEWS CENTER – Kurdish youth in London announced in a written statement that they will hold a conference on “Kurdish Students in the Diaspora and the Freedom Struggle” on Saturday, April 30.
Youth stated that they will take the participants on an educational journey from the roots of the colonization of Kurdistan to the current position of Kurdish students living far from their homeland, and in the last panel, there will be evaluations about the future as Kurds.
The full statement of the youth is as follows:
All our people are invited to a one-day conference called “Kurdish Students in the Diaspora and the Freedom Struggle” consisting of three panels, seminars and an evening program.
Generally, as students, we are caught between the damaging effect of colonialism and assimilation and therefore the struggle to envision our collective future. Especially as Kurdish students living abroad, we constantly struggle with our ‘Kurdish’ perception within ourselves, we constantly question what it means to be a Kurd and what responsibilities it carries, and we rarely spend time and energy thinking about it.
“We have the ultimate responsibility to make a change”
A strong sense of identity is fundamental to realizing our vision of a free Kurdish society, both beyond Kurdistan and in the Middle East. Therefore, being interested in Kurdish culture, history, literature, language and politics expresses and strengthens an understanding of the importance of Kurdish identity. Just as students from colonial societies played a major role in liberation, it is our responsibility to come to this role to create significant change in Kurdistan and the Middle East.
This event will take the participants on an educational journey from the roots of the colonization of Kurdistan to the current situation of Kurdish students living far from their homeland, and in the final panel, they will make a very important assessment of our future as Kurds.
As part of the seminars, we offer participants the opportunity to study Kurdish oral literature, Kurdish lessons, Jineology and Kurdish poems from the four parts of Kurdistan.
Our evening program, which consists of live music, poetry, national dance and the screening of Martyr Mehmet Aksoy’s film, will be a presentation of the depth and reach of Kurdish culture.”
