CENTRAL NEWS – World Vision International just released a full report about the life of the Syrians living under the oppression and occupation of the turkish forces and its mercenaries in Idlib and how this affects the society. Among the information shared by the lead authors Delphine Valette (independent consultant) and Alexandra Matei (World Vision International), talking to 419 respondents living in 28 widow camps in NW Syria (200 adult women, 139 children aged 11 to 18, and 80 children aged 6 to 10) found that:
- 34% of the of children said they had experienced one or more forms of violence. Of those, 32% had been married from an early age and 9% had experienced sexual abuse;
- These experiences were corroborated by the women, with 60% reporting they had witnessed child marriage, and 25%witnessing sexual violence in the camps;
- 58% of boys aged 11 and above 10 are involved in child labour, and 49% of girls of the same age are
also forced to work; - 83% of children aged 11 and above 11 are in desperate need of safe spaces and protection;
- 95% of women have negative feelings or hopelessness with almost no access to mental health support;
- 50% of them are subjected to physical abuse (v. 33% of boys). Violence increases the likelihood of girls
suffering severe depression issues, including psychological distress, poor self-esteem and hopelessness
