QAMISHLI – Demonstrations against the betrayal of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) and the attacks of the occupying Turkish state against the Kurds and the freedom movement have been going on since 12 April.
Many demonstrations took place in Hesekê and Qamişlo cantons. The protests are expected to continue until April 26.
At the call of the Assembly of the Families of the Martyrs, hundreds of residents of the Girkê Legê district of Qamişlo Canton demonstrated, condemning the PDK’s cooperation with the Turkish state, which is preparing to launch a large-scale attack on South Kurdistan.
The demonstration started from the Martyr Xebat Dêrik Martyrs’ Square in the western part of the district with the slogan “Let us fight against treason and protect our honor”. The families of the martyrs, representatives of the Democratic Autonomy of the Cizre Region, civil society organizations and clerics attended the funeral.
Demonstrations turned into a rally in front of the district’s central square. Girkê Legê district branch member Mihemed Cemil, a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), spoke at the rally and said that the history of the PDK was full of betrayal. Cemil said: “Because it supports the genocidal policies of the Turkish state aimed at the annihilation of the Kurds and the occupation of their lands. The PDK is collaborating with the occupier Turkish state against the people of Kurdistan. The way was opened for the occupier Turkish state to attack South Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Liberation Movement in the Medaya Defense Areas. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of South Kurdistan Masrur Barzani visited Turkey and met with Erdogan. These are signs of her cooperation.
Girkê Legê Martyrs’ Families Assembly member Narîşan Berekat also spoke and said: “The people of Northern and Eastern Syria believe in the cause of the Kurdish people. “Thousands of young people have been sacrificed for the sake of victory and freedom.”
Finally, Berekat called on the people of South Kurdistan to rise up against the genocidal policies and increase their struggle and resistance.
