Pointing out that the number of Turkish war and reconnaissance aircraft flying over Bakure Kurdistan and Medya Defense Areas is higher than the number of aircraft flying over the Ukrainian skies, Serdar Yektaş said, “So what is the result of all these operations? It is a huge nothing for the Turkish state. While our friends were going towards the base process in 2021, some martyrdoms took place in Dêrsîm and Mêrdîn, and we have already shared these with our people. However, tens of thousands of operations carried out during the winter and spring period were all inconclusive, and we did not experience a single loss. The initiative and superiority are in the hands of our friends.”
Pointing out that the KDP forces still maintain their presence in the guerrilla areas they entered with provocation last year, and that they have made new build-ups in Heftanîn and Metîna, Yektaş said, “It is known what position the KDP took against the guerrilla forces last year and what it did. We hope that the same will not be repeated this year. Because while our people are focused on winning the whole cause of freedom, they have a stance against all kinds of provocative attempts that weaken this struggle, whether they come from the inside or outside, and they have no patience anymore,” he said.
HPG BİM Spokesperson Serdar Yektaş answered ANF’s questions regarding the latest situation in the guerrilla areas.
HPG Command Council Meeting was shared with the public before Newroz. It is stated that the Turkish state is preparing for a new operation while welcoming the spring months. What is the latest situation in the guerrilla areas? Is there a possibility that the Turkish army will carry out an operation?
Guerrilla celebrates Newroz Day every year with the same feelings. The difference this year was that the guerrilla Newroz ceremonies were more visible and reflected in the press. For our people, this year was more glorious and more enthusiastic. The guerrilla also celebrated this Newroz with the spirit of victory and made its claim to the new year of struggle. Just as Newroz is the festival of resurrection and resistance, it is also the beginning of a new year of struggle for us.
With the spring comes information that the Turkish state may launch an invasion attack on Medya Defense Areas or, if it can, different parts of Kurdistan. But this does not mean that there is no war and attack right now. If you think so, it is definitely wrong. Currently, there have been very intense operations and attacks in Bakure Kurdistan, in Medya Defense Zones, uninterrupted since autumn. A state of complete war continues and is uninterrupted.
In a new statement, the Turkish Ministry of Interior says that it carried out more than 8,000 operations in Bakure Kurdistan in the last three months alone. Since they could not advance in Zap, Avaşîn and Metina, they retreated from some places. However, Medya Defense Areas are a continuous air operation area with SİHAs and warplanes. They are developing bombers almost daily and we already share them in our daily descriptions. Currently, the number of Turkish war and reconnaissance aircraft flying over the Bakure Kurdistan and Medya Defense Areas is higher than the number of aircraft flying over the Ukrainian skies. There may be those who find this determination exaggerated, but if they can ask and learn from places with civil and military weather radar, they will see that it is correct. Therefore, there is already a constant situation of attacks and operations against guerrilla areas. It is perceived as if the guerrilla has reached a level that can nullify all these and the Turkish state has failed to produce any results, as if there was no operation or attack, but it is not.
What are the chances of the Turkish state attempting a land invasion?
Of course it’s highly likely. We have an enemy who wants to commit genocide against us. The real question is why did he have to wait so long for a ground attack? Because last year, he received heavy blows in many places from Bakur to Medya Defense Zones, he could not do what he claimed and could not achieve his goals. Starting from Garê, it went upside down, and this defeat of the Turkish army was repeated in Avaşîn, Zap and Metîna. The Turkish state wants to attack, but it needs to be able to gather strength, organize itself and try to prepare its forces. All this shows how they are. See; It has been preparing for months to launch an attack against our movement and our people, it has been in a position to meet with foreign powers and seek help, it is in an effort to develop the collaborative betrayal foot within the Kurds, it is seeking to provide different war techniques. If he can get some of these himself, of course he will attack. If he could not continue the invasion attack that started on April 23 last year, if he could not move forward by move after move, it is because he was helpless and weakened by the guerrilla resistance. If they could, they wouldn’t have put it after them.
What is the level of preparation of the guerrilla forces against an invasion attack that may develop from the ground?
His statement on the annual meeting of our Command Council Meeting gave an adequate response on these issues. HPG’s Restructuring Project and new guerrilla tactics became practical to a large extent. But this is a constantly evolving process. Guerrilla is a force that trains itself every day, questions its practice, learns from its inadequacies and renews itself accordingly. In the light of this reality, important lessons were learned from the war of 2021, and ideological and military preparations were made. The guerrilla is both ready and already in active warfare. In other words, it is not in a position that is just waiting and positioned relative to the enemy.

Contrary to what you stated, the Turkish state gives exaggerated figures regarding guerrilla casualties. What can you say about this?
To answer in one word; is a lie. They give exaggerated figures on our losses because they don’t pay for the lie. So let’s ask; Where and when did so many guerrillas die? Let them come out and say it. The Minister of Interior, who considers himself one of the influential members of the private war, lied so much and was so exposed that they invented an institution called the spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, because he could not find the face to speak out at the moment; they have a bureaucrat under their command make these statements. They probably went for such a solution in their own way in order not to fall into more liar positions. They brag about how many Kurds they have killed and try to get a bonus by writing this to their success figures. When the Turkish Ministry of National Defense made statements about the guerrilla martyrdoms, the Ministry of Interior immediately made such a statement in order not to fall behind. They project many of these statements not just against us, but against each other, and as a result of their own internal contradictions. Let us state it clearly and concretely here; In the Medya Defense Zones, from the beginning of 2022 until now, 7 of our friends have been martyred. On January 23, 3 of our friends were martyred and we declared it, and in the last few days, a total of 4 of our friends have been martyred in two different places. We have no martyrdom in Bakur anyway. Therefore, what the Turkish state has stated regarding our martyrdoms in both Bakur and Medya Defense Zones is definitely not true.
It seems that the guerrilla has been in action since the beginning of the year. What can you say about these actions and the losses of the Turkish state?
Although the tempo of guerrilla action sometimes changes according to seasonal conditions, it is uninterrupted. As you mentioned, guerrilla activity has continued since the beginning of the year, despite the harsh winter conditions. The guerrilla struck in January, hit in February, and started to rise with March 8, Newroz and Heroic Week. We believe this will increase further throughout the year. Since the beginning of 2022, the Turkish state has carried out a total of 342 air strikes, 312 times with airplanes and 30 times with helicopters. He made 10 times howitzer and mortar attacks from land. These numbers are what our friends saw and clarified. There are also bombardments that we are unaware of, as they often bombard the land unattended. On the other hand, the guerrilla carried out 20 actions. It was determined that 23 occupiers were punished and 2 occupants were injured in these actions. Apart from these, there may be occupiers killed or injured in some actions whose results cannot be determined exactly, we only share the definite ones. The Turkish state is making up such special war lies in order to both mask its own weakness and not reflect the effectiveness of guerrilla actions. Our friends who carried out the actions know this fact well, so they record all their actions within the possibilities and send them to us. We share them on Guerilla TV. It is seen that the action and guerrilla images broadcast on Gerila TV are followed with interest. Considering what you have said, what role does Gerila TV play?
The capitalist system of modernity and the colonialists are trying to close all the channels through which the freedom movement and the guerrilla can express themselves and carry them to the society. Gerila TV is the name of the style that pierces these enemy efforts and brings the guerrilla truth to the society. While the Turkish state is developing intense private war lies, as if it has no guerrilla activity, initiative and presence, Gerila TV gives the most effective response against this. Currently, all digital media organs under the control of hegemonic powers are closed to us, Gerila TV is banned, they have no tolerance for guerrilla truth. But Gerila TV is the space that the guerrilla opens and expresses himself through his own efforts. Those who want to learn the truth of the guerrilla and the war waged in Kurdistan, therefore, turn to look at Gerila TV.
Let the Turkish state resort to lies as much as it wants, let the society be bombarded with lies. When we record and reveal our actions, all their lies are shattered in an instant. If a guerrilla team or squads hit the enemy once when they carry out their action in an area, when we broadcast its action on Gerila TV, it hits it thousands of times. Because it hits their private war media, the wave of fascism, their distorted perception, like a slap in the face of the Turkish private war chiefs who are arrogant. That’s why blocking, limiting and attacking Gerila TV is very intense. However, it is inconclusive.
We are a guerrilla force and we are at war. We do not perform Gerila TV to broadcast television. It has emerged as a need of our revolution and our struggle, it has an important role and function at the moment. Of course, it is our primary duty to tell our truth better, to convey more to our people, to the peoples and to everyone who wants to emulate our guerrilla struggle. All our guerrilla friends have made an important effort and effort in this regard, and they will continue to do so in the future. Because Gerila TV is not just a channel where guerrilla actions are broadcast. At the same time, we share here how the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla lives, what he does, what he thinks, how he trains himself, what he feels, what folk songs he expresses. Incidentally, I would like to point out one point: While the efforts of our friends and the great interest of our people are in question for Guerilla TV, other organs do not give enough importance. The guerrilla can document its actions and activities with a few minutes of footage and present it to the public. However, it takes days of planning, effort, labor and insistence of our friends in order for that few minutes of action to take place. The infrastructure of that few minutes of footage is being built with the blood and sweat on the basis of the spirit of great sacrifice. That’s why we want the movies not to be watched as a cross section, to know how they were created, and to use the means at their disposal on the basis of spreading the guerrilla truth more.
The KCK Foreign Relations Committee issued serious warnings, stating that there was information that the KDP would go to war against the guerrilla forces. What can you state about this? What is the situation on the field?
Our movement has made the necessary preliminary warnings to avoid a disaster. There is a lot of information that reaches us from local sources on this subject. However, we do not know how many of these are true, how much is for disinformation and to provoke us into a war. That’s why we approach all information with caution. What matters is what the practical situation is on the field. KDP forces still maintain their presence in the guerrilla areas they entered with provocation last year. They are in a position with their triggers facing the guerrilla areas. It does not have any withdrawal, and on the contrary, it makes the places where it is located even more fortified. What all this means is known, there is a possibility that it could turn into a very dangerous situation and consequences. In the last month, they first settled in some places in the Heftanîn area. Then they came to Kela Qumriyê in the Metîna area and settled down. We are also informed that the KDP forces are putting serious pressure on our people living in Metîna, Sheladize and the villages around Amediyê not to engage with the guerrilla and are making threats.
It is already known what position the KDP took against the guerrilla forces and what it did last year. We hope that the same will not be repeated this year. Because while our people are focused on winning a whole cause of freedom, they have a stand against all kinds of provocative attempts that weaken this struggle, whether they come from within or outside, and they have no patience anymore. We act with this awareness and responsibility.
