BEHDÎNAN – KCK Presidential Council member Sozdar Avesta talked to ANF agency. Avesta assessed the isolation that the occupying Turkish state is carrying out on Leader Apo, the occupier operation that was launched on April 17 on the Median Defense Areas, the resistance of the guerrillas and the attacks on Sinjar.
It has not been more than a year since information was received from Leader Apo. North Kurdistan, especially in all four parts of Kurdistan and abroad, with millions of people in Newroz squares and celebrations on April 4, demanded the release of Leader Apo. With this demand of millions how do you evaluate the isolation policy?
MILLIONS DETERMINED TO FREE RÊBER APO
First of all, I salute the resistance and the sacred and historical attitude of Leader Apo in Imrali. In the person of Leader Apo, a new concept of genocide and liquidation was introduced to the people and the freedom movement. The Turkish fascist dictatorship has intensified its isolation on Leader Apo and says that it will be able to break the will of our movement and that of our people. Fascist dictator Erdogan has said some things about Leader Apo in the past, which shows that they put a lot of pressure on Leader Apo. It is clear from the genocidal operation on Zap that no results were obtained from these coercions. It is clear from the words of the fascist leader that a new concept of war has been introduced in Imrali. In the name of disciplinary action they carry out more severe isolation and retaliation.
They made some speculative words before Newroz and tried not to let our people go out on March 8th and Newroz. Despite all this, the women and youth of Kurdistan in particular, our people, despite their friends, strongly participated in Newroz and gathered around the Leader. Newroz and April 4, 2022 have been the strongest referendum in recent years of the most massive, dynamic and self-sacrificing Leadership. Millions of people joined the 50’s Leader’s freedom march, stating that they do not accept the isolation of Imrali and that the freedom of Leader Apo will not be delayed. The occupier and occupier Turkish state has gone mad against the strong will of our people. The rallies should not be limited to the March 8, Newroz and April 4 rallies, which are the culmination of the ‘Time for Freedom’ step, until the physical liberation of Leader Apo is achieved.
On 17 April, the occupying Turkish state launched an occupier operation in the Median Protection Areas. It has also intensified genocidal operations in northern Kurdistan and airstrikes in northern and eastern Syria. What is the purpose of increasing these attacks?
ATTACK ON ZAP IS OCCUPATION FOR KILLING
The fascism of the AKP and the MHP launched new genocidal operations on April 17 in the Media Protection Areas, mainly in Zap, Rojava and Sinjar, when they could not achieve results in the person of Leader Apo. In North Kurdistan, the will of our people has not been seen in Newroz, hundreds of our people have been arrested by political assassination attacks and these attacks have been launched in the guerrilla areas. The attack on Zap is an invasion for genocide. As our Central Command has also pointed out, Operation Zap is not a simple and orderly attack. The international conjunctural situation has been taken advantage of and this plan has been handed over to Barzani (Father, who, brother). This concept is based on the realization of the neo-Ottoman dreams of the fascist leader Erdogan and Bahçeli. With this they want to establish the borders of Misak-i Milli. The regime, which has been collapsing for 7 years in the face of guerrilla resistance and has reached the point of collapse, has once again exploited international relations of opportunity and interest, exploiting Turkey’s geopolitical and geo-strategic situation and the advantages of NATO membership.
ONCE AGAIN, THEY WANT TO SACRIFICE THE EXISTENCE OF THE KURDISH PEOPLE AND THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM
On the basis of putting the Russia-Ukraine war in their interest, re-establishing relations with the US and the EU, balancing relations with Russia, offering all the values of Turkey and wanting to escalate this war. People pay attention to the fact that this week they are attacking Zap with NATO defense weapons. In the eyes of the world this occupier attack is being carried out but still as there is no such genocidal attack, the US, Europe, NATO and other countries do not want to see this. This also shows that for the TC to be with them and as in history once again want to sacrifice the existence of the Kurdish people and its struggle for freedom. The fascism of the AKP and the MHP has started the election campaign with this operation. Clearly they need to be successful. With this attack, they want to strike at the freedom fighters, seize its political will, end the revolution in the North and East of Syria. If successful they will start the selection process. Because apart from such false victories for another time, there is no force in which the fascism of the AKP and the MHP can stand on its own. This year marks the anniversary of Lausanne. With the Treaty of Lausanne, the geography of the Kurdish people, which was divided into four parts, became meaningless with the position of Leader Apo and the establishment of the PKK, and the nationalism of the Kurdish people developed on the basis of democracy, freedom and science. In Kurdistan and the Middle East, with the paradigm of democratic modernity, there is a common will of the people. Fascist Erdogan has seen little of Lausanne because he has seen his defeat against this. In order to exterminate the Kurdish people, it expands the concepts of war and wants to put them into practice. In another century, Lausanne wants to bring the traitorous Kurds to justice. But they do not want to see that the Kurds are not the Kurds of a hundred years ago and now the Kurdish people have been struggling for half a century on the basis of the struggle for existence. The struggle for the freedom of peoples and women, which is being waged along the lines of Leader Apo and the leadership of the PKK, has been a source of inspiration for the peoples of the world. The 50th anniversary of Newroz has become one of the brightest moments of this.
The freedom fighters in Zap are responding strongly to the occupying forces and carrying out strong operations. This also indicates that the occupying Turkish army will suffer a heavy blow. Is the end of the 2008 handwriting being written. What do you want to say about guerrilla resistance?

In the person of my friend Zilan, Rojgirav, Agir and Mizgin who bravely fought and were martyred in Zap, I respectfully remember my friend who was martyred in Zap. I heartily salute the freedom fighters of HPG and YJA Star of Apoy. On behalf of our management, I congratulate them on their historic success. Indeed, the Son of Jahro, the Wounded Cave and the Black Mountain have dealt heavy blows to Turkish fascist tyranny. His body was crushed and the first wave of the attack shattered. The enemy is already in shock at Zap’s second defeat. In February 2008, during an operation against Zap, the enemy was defeated and forced to flee. Fascist General Yaşar Buyukanit, the then Chief of General Staff, said at the time, “We simply withdrew our forces,” and had to admit defeat. Fascist Erdogan said yesterday ‘this operation will continue for a while’ and admitted that it would fail. The freedom guerrillas of the Kurdish people, in the spirit of Apoyi and in the style of beating, use modern guerrilla tactics to prevent the enemy from breathing. Our Zap guerrilla force has a great deal of experience and expertise. In Jahro Son, teams of women free guerrillas take the lead in the fight. We are proud of them. On the line of Egid and Beritan, guerrilla teams of democratic modernity grow and defend Kurdistan. It will determine the Zap resistance of the process. The victory of the guerrillas in Gare was marked by the resistance of Zendura, Mam Reşo, Werxel and Avaşin. A manuscript was written under the command of his friend Cumali Corum. The first anniversary will confirm the victory in Zap.
The fascist Turkish state receives the strongest support from the PDK in its occupier attacks on Kurdistan. The cooperation between the PDK and the Turkish state poses a great threat to the future of the Kurdish people. What do you want to say about the PDK’s cooperation policy in the Turkish state?
It was also stated by the HPG commanders that this war is a strategic war, a war of man and man. The PDK, which had hitherto secretly supported the enemy, was now directly involved in Operation Zap and put together an attack plan. PDK leaders repeatedly went to the feet of the fascist dictator Erdogan and declared that they would work with them against the freedom movement. The Turkish state, which thanks to the struggle of the PKK and Leader Apo now acknowledges their existence and maintains contact with it, is clear that when our movement is eliminated, it will attack the PDK one day after attacking the Media Protection Areas. We know this Turkish fascist dictatorship well from its history and from its hostility to the Kurds. The Turkish army, which is unable to deploy troops to Zap on a daily basis, has already calculated that it will easily capture Barzani’s palaces. Our people of the South should know that the gains made at great cost are being made by the Barzani dynasty on the basis of their interests offered to the fascist Turkish dictatorship. Barzani withdrew the results of the referendum on the independence of Kurdistan in the near future due to the threat of Erdogan’s fascist attack and then surrendered to them. They know best that if our movement is disrupted they will not be able to stay on their feet for even a month. The Barzani family, because their mask of fake Kurdishness has been put on their face, is at this level unreasonably hostile to Leader Apo and the freedom movement. Because their face will be really exposed. For years he saw himself as the owner of Kurdistan and used all the resources of Kurdistan to strengthen his tribe and dynasty. Those who surrendered to Erdogan today are definitely not the patriotic sons of our southern people. Those who surrendered to Erdogan are Barzani’s special forces and their network of intelligence.
The Turkish occupation has occupied all of Barzani’s areas from Zakho to Erbil, but not from itself. The occupation that has been carried out is not only intelligence and military, but also cultural, economic and political occupation. The Turkish occupation has controlled the whole of South Kurdistan with its soft power. From the kitchen to the cinema, from the way of cultural life to music, everything has become Turkish. The Barzani family is forcing assimilation into Kurdistan. He puts all of this aside and tries to put a shirt on his betrayal in order to cover up his guilt. The regions that see the freedom movement as their own and act with the brains of those who have divided Kurdistan. By saying ‘why is the PKK in Zap, why is it in Avaşin’ he is trying to find an excuse for his surrender sect. The PKK is the only freedom movement for all of Kurdistan and its people. The existence of the PKK is not a threat to the people of South Kurdistan, the definition of a threat is a big lie, it is unconscionable. There are no moral or human values. Had it not been for the PKK’s 50-year struggle and resistance, Barzani’s co-operative policy, which has often led to massacres in the south, would soon have succeeded. Our people should know this. The true face of the PDK was once again seen by our people in the south in 2014 when ISIS invaded Sinjar, Makhmur and Kirkuk, and the people saw Qandil as their representative and officially demanded our movement. to get started in the situation. Had it not been for the revolutionary struggle of our movement, with the PDK’s agreement with ISIS in the Jordan meeting, the whole of South Kurdistan would have been under the occupation of ISIS today.
Despite the fact that it is seen by everyone, the approach that shows the PKK’s presence in the South as the cause of the Turkish state’s occupier attack means that it is making a joke with the minds of our people and public opinion. The PDK must first and foremost give an account of the massacre and genocide in Sinjar that it handed over to ISIS in 2014. Must account for this practice. This puts aside and without being hostile to the PKK, the PKK has liberated the people and the Yazidis in Sinjar from command. If today the PDK and Barzani have completely surrendered to Erdogan and Bahçeli, the reason is that the PKK has taken its place in the hearts of our people in South Kurdistan since 2014 and is the only force that our people can trust. As a result, no one is fooled by fake Kurdish anymore. Instead of seeing this situation, the PDK leaders apologized to our people and returned from the betrayal, unfortunately once again leading the genocidal attack of the Turkish state fascism that launched its attack on Zap on April 17th. Turkish state contractors in peshmerga uniforms enter the areas of attack, encircle the areas of guerrilla resistance and thus make their ranks more visible. The operation will also bring an end to Barzani, along with the fascist Erdogan and Bahceli. The dark forces have joined forces in this war. Our people in the South in particular need to see this fact well and show their attitude. I also call on all political parties in the south, women’s movements, civil society organizations, environmentalists, intellectuals, artists, independents, elders, tribal leaders, and anyone who is committed to the freedom of Kurdistan to take a stand. show against the PDK and defend Kurdistan. ”
How should the Kurdish people respond to the betrayal of the PDK and the attacks of the Turkish fascist regime? What should be the attitude of Kurdish youth in particular?
EVERY PLACE ARE MEDIA PROTECTION AREAS
Today the freedom fighters in Zap stand up for the dignity and freedom on behalf of all humanity. As always, our people have embraced the resistance of our heroic guerrillas. From the very beginning, our people, led by Kurdish youth and brave women in 4 parts of Kurdistan and abroad, took their place and took their place in the front of the freedom movement and the guerrillas. In particular, the revolutionary people’s defense units in Bursa and Istanbul took action against the fascist forces and gave the message of socialization with Zap. The socialization of the freedom fighters’ struggle is possible through the development of a revolutionary people’s war. I am convinced that the youth and women of Kurdistan who have filled the Newroz areas will fulfill their duties and responsibilities in this period. Every place and area is a media protection area, it should be taken with Zap’s mind and move where it is. Especially the young heroes of Kurdistan must play their role in history. The fascist Turkish state and its allies and anyone who supports them will be targeted in these actions.
‘IT’S TIME FOR THE YOUNG APOISTS’
It is necessary to respond to the concept of total annihilation with resistance and action and see each unit as a guerrilla team in Zap. The revolutionary democratic youth movements of Kurdistan and Turkey must actively participate in the successful step of “Now is the time for freedom, come to the war for freedom”. The Kurdistan Free Women’s Movement must play its historic role by taking the step of ‘protecting women and society’ by participating in the 50th anniversary of the leadership. It is the time of the Apocalyptic youth. No Kurdish individuals, friends of the Kurdish people, forces of the democratic alliance should be left out of this process. They should know that this is a war and an attack against them, show their attitude accordingly. In the meantime one should not watch this struggle but have to leave. I call on all our people, especially young people and women, to raise this sacred resistance and ensure its success.
Fighting broke out on April 18 between the Iraqi army and security forces in Sinjar, followed by clashes with YBŞ forces. What are the Iraqi state plans for Sinjar? What should be the attitude of the people of Sinjar?
The people of Sinjar and the Yazidi community, by sacrificing hundreds of their heroic children against ISIS, have established a system on their own land with their free and democratic will. From 2014 to 2017, despite all the odds, Iraq’s borders were defended against ISIS, rescuing Sinjar and its environs. After the PDK fled Sinjar for the second time in 2017, some armed forces of the Iraqi army wanted to deploy on the border. YBŞ-YJŞ forces supported on the basis of dialogue and established a common line of defense. When ISIS attacked in 2014, after Iraq and the PDK left Sinjar, the freedom movement took a historic step and took a revolutionary stance, killing dozens of people and preventing the Yazidi people from being massacred. After the Yazidi community regained its will to govern and defend, the freedom movement withdrew its forces from Sinjar. From that day on, the Turkish fascist dictators and their ally the PDK, incorporated the elimination of Sinjar into the general concept of genocide and wanted to disperse the organized will. On March 3, 2017, the PDK Roj gangs (a counter-organization trained by the Turkish state against the Kurds) attacked the Xanesor district of Sinjar. Hundreds of people would have been killed if not for the common sense and resistance of the Sinjar self-government and the HPG-YJA STAR command of that time. In front of the eyes of the whole world, the Yazidi women and youth who were saved from the brutal attacks of ISIS thanks to the freedom fighters, stood like live shields in front of the PDK and prevented the attack. Journalist Nujiyan Erhan and member of the youth organization Naze Naif Kaval were also martyred along with a group of comrades. Since then, they have tried many times to gain control of Sinjar by air and land. By killing the commanders and leaders, they wanted to drive the people away from Sinjar and their territory and suppress the resistance. While all this was going on, the Iraqi government did not fulfill its duties and responsibilities towards the Yazidi community, nor did it show a clear stance against those who carried out the attacks. The inaction of the Iraqi government encouraged the occupying forces and gradually spread their attacks on the entire society. As a result of the plans of the Turkish Republic and the PDK and their implementation, walls and fences have been erected on the line of contact between the Sinjar community and the Western Autonomous Region, which has become a breathing space. Of course, this policy primarily harms the Iraqi people and society.
Many different communities, faiths and cultures live together in Iraq. The Iraqi constitution, drafted after the fall of Saddam’s regime in 2003, provides for self-government and self-defense in areas and provinces where each community has its own cultural values and origins. Does a community that has passed 73 (according to written sources) have a more legitimate right to live and preserve its faith and culture? Democratic self-government and self-defense have developed together with the Yazidi community and other peoples of Sinjar, especially the Arab people who are part of Iraq. It is by no means dangerous. They are exercising their constitutional rights. As far as we know the state and the people of Iraq do not view this composition negatively. Fascist President Erdogan and the PDK leadership are the ones who see this as a threat and put its elimination on the agenda and take part in the concept of genocide. For example, it is clear that the concrete blocks, wires and mines of the border walls were made by the Republic of Turkey and made by itself.
‘THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE RESOLVED THROUGH DIALOGUE’
On April 18, some Iraqi Army-affiliated military units were sent to Sinjar to seize positions of the YBŞ and YJŞ security forces. YJŞ member Faraşin alîengali was killed and several others were wounded in the clashes. Our movement has stated that these attacks are not real and should be stopped. As far as we follow from the media the war has stopped but the chaos continues, the problem has not been resolved. The solution is not to oppress the Yazidi community and eliminate its gains. Such a thing would do the most damage to the Iraqi people and society. This must be stopped. The problem must be resolved through dialogue. The existence of the people of Sinjar and the Yazidis must be acknowledged, and their autonomy must be guaranteed in the constitution. The resistance of the people of Sinjar is very significant. I salute and congratulate this resistance. From the first moment and from now on there have been riots around the positions of the defense forces and it should be noted this is a strong stance. Everyone should be well aware of this, the Yazidi women and society do not want the situation to live up to it again in 2014. As long as a woman and a man remain she will continue to fight for her freedom and dignity. The Yazidi youth and all members of its community will not allow their organization and organization to be disbanded so that it will not be ruled out again.
No force can accept the Yazidi community to let their will be spread, surrender and return to the era before 2014. The system of coexistence that the Yazidi and Arab peoples have established in the Yezidi community, Iraq being seen primarily by all small communities and disrespectful to their beliefs, becomes a source of inspiration. The fascist Tcya and the PDK fear the unity and cooperation of the peoples. The monolithic and treacherous mindset sees this as a danger to itself and that is the main goal. I call on our Yazidi community in all four parts of Kurdistan, Europe, Armenia and Russia to continue their struggle for the status of Sinjar autonomy in all areas and to resist all attacks. In particular, I call on the Sinjaris in the camps in South Kurdistan to return to their land and join the ranks of the struggle.
