A friend from the Basque Country is currently visiting Rojava to see the revolution with his own eyes, he talked to our agency as we visit the Internationalist Commune of Rojava. He talked about how in his homeland he had heard, read and discussed so much about Rojava with friends, but in the end he was drawn to Rojava himself.
Society in the Basque Country itself has a long history of social resistance against Spanish fascism, which to this day does not recognize the Basques as a separate people, occupies their country and tyrannies them with special warfare methods. Many young people who resisted the Spanish occupation are in Spanish prisons, often for life.
The youth in the Basque Country are growing up with this story, with the inner desire for freedom, for revolution and the deep desire to finally win as a society. But the resistance in the Basque country is divided, the Spanish enemy influenced the youth too much, the influences of capitalist modernity in the heart of Europe were too strong. Despite this, the heartfelt patriotism of the Basque people lives on.
