BEHDÎNAN – HPG Press Center has released the names of four guerrilla fighters who were killed in an accidental explosion during training in Medya Defense Areas in February this year.
The HPG Press Center’s written statement said:
“In this accident, our companions Sîdar, Mordem, Serbest and Şevger fell. Each one of them was a sacrificial commander. That they fell in this way is a heavy loss for us and our people.”
The identities of the four fallen guerrilla fighters are:

Sîdar Zîlan
Sîdar Zîlan’s family is from Efrîn, but he himself was born in Aleppo and grew up under the influence of the Baath regime. His family was patriotic, however, and Sîdar recognized the contradictions in the existing system early on. Although he could not be educated in his native language, he made an effort to express himself in Kurdish. In the course of the Rojava revolution, he became active in the Kurdish youth movement and learned more about the PKK and Abdullah Öcalan. As of 2012, he was an active member of the liberation movement and stayed in Rojava for a while. While defending the revolution, he was injured three times. After that, he went to the mountains and became part of the special units of the guerrilla “Hêzên Taybet”. He took on critical tasks several times and became a commander. In the statement of the HPG he is described as an outstanding militant who stood out for his intelligence and was deeply connected with his comrades.

Mordem Êrîş
Mordem Êrîş was born in Amed and spent his childhood in the Sûr district, which gave him an early exposure to the colonial system of the Turkish state. During his studies in Ankara, he became active in the Kurdish youth movement and became involved in various fields. With his work, he initiated important developments and thus came into the sights of the Turkish state. He was arrested and spent two years in prison. During this time he deepened his knowledge of the PKK and the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. After his release, he thought about continuing his struggle in the mountains. The decisive factor in his decision was the Turkish state’s support for IS when they attacked Şengal and Kobanê in 2014. In 2015, he joined the ranks of the guerrillas with a group. He stayed in the Qendîl Mountains for a while and became part of the special forces “Hêzên Taybet.” The HPG describes him as an enthusiastic personality with a dynamic and active character who “overcame all difficulties with laughter, becoming a source of morale for his comrades.”

Serbest Bêrîtan
Serbest Bêrîtan was born and raised in Cizîr. Life in the Kurdish resistance stronghold was enough to develop in him an awareness of the reality of the Turkish state. He witnessed various attacks and wanted to join the guerrillas as early as 2012. Since he was still too young, he was not accepted. However, he persevered and finally went to the mountains in 2014. There he developed himself further through great diligence and intensively studied the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. With his vigor, he was able to pull his comrades along and give them strength. He took on great responsibility and always put himself forward for the most difficult jobs. In 2016, he went to the Avaşîn region and took part in numerous successful actions against the enemy. He became part of the special forces “Hêzên Taybet” and deepened his ideological education. The HPG describes him as an example of sacrifice.

Şevger Hîvron
Şevger Hîvron was born in the metropolis of Minbic in northern Syria. The region was initially under the control of the Baath regime and was later occupied by IS gangs. Şevger learned about the Kurdistan Freedom Movement when Minbic was liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD). He wanted to learn more about the origin of the developments in northern and eastern Syria and became active in revolutionary work himself. After a short time, he went to the mountains to join the guerrillas and quickly developed in the training there. After a deep study of the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan, he became part of the special units “Hêzên Taybet”. He read a lot and discussed constantly with his comrades about the paradigm of the chairman. In all his work, he showed an irrepressible and purposeful energy, for which he was highly appreciated in his environment. The HPG states, “Our comrade Şevger was seriously injured in an accident during the construction of a war tunnel and fell despite all efforts.” This loss, he said, was hard and painful. Şevger Hîvron had dreamed of defeating the enemy in the underground defenses, he said. “We will make this dream come true,” the HPG said.
The statement added that the guerrillas will draw consequences from this tragic accident. To the families of the fallen and to the people of Kurdistan, the HPG expresses its condolences.
