HEWLÊR – Three days ago, the Turkish occupiers detained and kidnapped 12 youths in the territory of southern Kurdistan. The Turkish occupying state is not only attacking the territories in the south of Kurdistan with its invasion operations, but also kidnapping the youths in the region.
For three days, 12 young people have been kidnapped by Turkish troops in the Biradost area of Hewlêr province. Their fate has been unknown since then. The provincial government is also silent on the issue.
On April 15, when the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrur Barzani, met with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish occupation army detained 12 citizens of the Kurdistan Region in the territory of the south and killed a number of their horses. The people were also tortured during their abduction. The kidnapped youths are from Dila, Malmaluk and Midan villages in Sidekan town in Soran district of Erbil.
An eyewitness of the incident revealed that the Turkish army soldiers blocked their way after allowing them to go to the area, a number of the residents managed to escape during the attack. The Turkish army had fired at them and killed several of their horses. The fate of those taken by Turkish troops in the south is still unknown. A video of the arrest has surfaced in digital media platforms depicting the attack by the occupying Turkish army.
Yesterday, the governor of Erbil, Umed Khosnaw, spoke about the arrest and said; “The Foreign Office of the regional government is in contact with the relevant bodies of the Turkish state and is investigating the detention of citizens. There is no reason to kill civilians in the area.”
Three days have passed since the arrest of these youths, and their fate is unknown. Apart from the statement of the governor of Hewlêr, who also answered the journalists’ question, no one from the regional government or any other party in the south has commented on this issue or expressed their own position.
