BEHDÎNAN – Murat Karayilan reminded Hawram Awyer, the Commander of HPG in Mardin Province and said, “The participation of our dear commanders like Comrade Hawram is an example for us, he is an immortal hero. Always light our way with your resistance. ”
PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) Executive Committee member Murat Karayilan recalled Hasan Mahmud (Hewram Awyer), Commander of the HPG in Mardin Province, East Kurdistan (Rojhilat), who was martyred on March 29-30, 2021 in Mardin. Karayilanlan said:
“Hawram Awyer was a friend of ours from the East (Rojhilat). There was a lot of discussion about our movement in the East in the 2000s. Heval Hawram who was a young man at the time, recognized the freedom movement. Many people from Heval Hawram village had not joined the movement before, but it is a patriotic village. He’s family is also patriotic. Heval Hawram was studying Computer Science at Kurdistan University in Sinai. Has been researching the Kurdistan uprisings for years at the University; why they did not succeed, why they failed. Of coursehe had also heard about the Freedom Movement, researched on it as well. Saw Leader Apo has identified why previous movements have not been successful. He argued with his friends at the University. 5-6 friends left the University and joined the ranks of our movement in 2006. Heval Hawram and his friends were not only emotionally involved with Kurdish, they wrre doing good research, getting deeper. They saw the victories within the PKK and got influenced by it, so he decided to join our ranks.
JOINED THE RESISTANCE IN BOTAN
He worked in Rojhilat for a while, but he wanted to work in all parts of Kurdistan. Therefore he wanted to go to other parts of Kurdistan. This request was implemented in 2013 in Botan. After crossing to Botan he joined the Bestay Command. Then he went to Cudi as needed. There he also rises to the task of commanding. When Commander Gelhat goes to join the Kobanê resistance, Heval Hawram took his place as commander. Commander Gelhat joins the resistance in Kobanê and is martyred there.
Heval Hawram also worked in Cudi. He was involved in many operations in Botan. He took part in many activities in Cizre, Silopi and Elk. Heval Hawram played an important role in the process of self-determination in Botan. Because he himself is interested in the resistance in Cizre and Silopi. He got involved in its preparations. In the process that the enemy could not enter the neighbourhoods of Cizre for 9 days, Heval Hawram led the resistance. The friends there had greatly advances as militants and warriors.
After the massacres in Cizre and Silopi, Hawram had 60 friends under his command, they entered Silopi on April – I believe it was April 4 – on the birthday of Reberti. They Fought for 2 days in Silopi despite his strength, demanding accountability from the enemy. Cudi withdrew his forces 2 days after the attack on the enemy. He was such a great commander. In Botan he was on the move with the team. Lots of actions. “Then, as a matter of necessity, his role increases and he become the commander of Elk.”
PLAYED WITH HIS ROLE IN THE BOTAN WAR
Karayilanlan recalled that Hawram was seriously injured in an airstrike after the Turkish state launched an extensive operation in the Kato Jîrka area, saying, “Heval Hawram will be treated later. Heval Hawram, who played a very important role in the practice in Botan, was at the forefront with his hard work and strength in battle. A young friend, but understanding, he was a brave warrior. Put your stamp on many activities in Botan. The 2-day Silopi resistance, the 9-day Cizre resistance, as well as the role and work of Heval Hawram in many places in Elk and Bestay. So in Botan it came out in a short time. Botan is not an easy place, not everyone there can get ahead. He was at the forefront of the role in the Battle of Botan.
HAD A REVOLUTIONARY CULTURE
Heval Hawram was a revolutionary from Kurdistan. For him there was not only a part of it. For example after coming to Botan he became one with Botan. He did not felt like a stranger there. It had a democratic and national dimension. He was a patriot man who endorsed the ideas of Leader Apo. So his focus was not on regionalism. To not confuse the Hawraman people, his name was Hawram Awyer, obviously related to his nature. By its very nature it had a national identity. This is also true for us. You will never be cut off from your nature, but you will be a patriot. Do not be a regionalist. That’s right. Hawram friend had reached this level. So he did his job in every field. When he was appointed to the Mardin State Command, no one said, ‘Maybe Heval Hawram is a stranger there, Mardin is different, it is a bit mountainous, it is a bit flat’. Everyone knew that Heval Hawram would fight everywhere. He had a revolutionary culture.
ON THE TRACK OF COMMANDER SIMKO
He had education at the Apollo Academy for a year after receiving treatment. It was developed ideologically and theoretically. But in Mardin the need arose. Heval Hawram also wanted to work in the North. Followed in the footsteps of Commander Simko. As Commander Simko went from the East to the Black Sea, commanding in Dersim, his friend Heval Hawram also wanted to go even further. But the friends told him, do not overdo it, Mardin is enough and he was appointed as the Commander of Mardin. He played an important role in his practice in Mardin. He did a lot of activities, often went to a lot of activities, so he was criticized. For example he himself was involved in activities in Botan. Certainly criticized by this side.
HE WAS VERY COURAGEOUS
Now it was time for the state commander to coordinate activities on a daily basis. That is, he had to defend himself, not get involved in activities. Warned in this regard, he was still careful. He was a very brave friend. Everything could be bought everywhere. But as the commander he was not to be seen everywhere. Because the enemy attacks the commanders. Heval Hawram also had his shortcomings in this regard. He wanted to be everywhere. One can say that his martyrdom was because of this. How come? For example, he wanted to meet friends in Kerboran. I believe Egîd, Rustem were also being followed. We do not know well, but we have doubts in this regard. Heval Hawram was also controlled in this way. One of the commanders of the region, a friend of the Leader, had already gone to Diyarbakir. Heval Hawram called him. Both the Leader and his friends in Kerboran were with him when the incident took place. The enemy at this time first attacks the Bagok area from the air, then launches a large-scale attack from the ground. Rustem, Rêber and Egîd are martyred there.
The martyrdom of our friend Hawram was a great loss for us. Because he had many duties in the province of Mardin. It had missions to send guerrilla forces to different areas and withdraw. Had to coordinate this work, not be directly involved. But he wanted to do everything himself, this also caused some security problems to occur. He had been warned about this, but a very bloodthirsty friend wanted to dominate the process. So I wanted to discuss the annual plan with my friends. He had experience both ideologically, politically, organizationally and militarily. A friend this young could have done even more. That’s why the martyrdom of Heval Hawram hurt everyone so much.
SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH AND FOUND IT ON THE PKK
Every martyrdom is a message to us. Six friends were martyred in the same place after the martyrdom of Heval Hawram. The martyrdom of the martyrs of Bagok is a message to us. We must remember them.
Like Heval Hawram the involvement of our precious commanders is an example to us, a fundamental perspective, an immortal hero. Through our resistance, our way and method will always light our way. In the freedom of Kurdistan, in the physical freedom of the Leader, we must remember them. That way we can immortalize them. In this way we can achieve their goals.
Heval Hawramd was looking for the truth and thus joined the PKK. As a young Kurd he wanted to see a revolution and get involved. Thus saw the PKK and joined the guerrilla ranks.
Leaving Jawero, a friend like Hawram from Hawraman is a great honor for his family. Achieving such a revolutionary, a hardworking and strong commander is an honor and dignity for his mother, father, brothers and sisters. It is also an example for the people of Hawreman. The call is on the youth of Hawraman. Hawraman’s friend’s step is not out of line. In a short time he reached the level of the state commander with his hard work and efforts. This scene of Hawreman’s friend is an example for all the youth of Hawreman and Kurdistan, it is an honor. His practice is a call and a message to everyone. Young people in Kurdistan should act like Hawram’s friend. Knowingly lead the way for a free Kurdistan. Heval Hawram invited everyone to join our movement with his life which has represented 16 years. We must approach it this way. The martyrdom of these revolutionaries who have played an important role in history is a command for us. “As his comrades, we can immortalize them by winning their goal.”
