During protests against the rape of a 12-year-old Kurdish girl by a caretaker of Rah-e Shohada School, tens of protestors were arrested by Iranian security forces. One of these protestors, Ehsan Abdizadeh (25), was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months imprisonment for partaking in the protests.
On 23 October 2017, hundreds of people in the Islamabad neighborhood in Urmia protested against the rape of a 12-year-old child by a caretaker of Rah-e Shohada School. During the protests, the enraged people also set School and the Basij base in the Quds Mosque on fire. Short after, Iranian Security forces and anti-riot police stormed the protestors, detaining tens of them and wounding 11.
According to a report shared by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, a Kurdish citizen from the Islamabad neighborhood of Urmia, Ehsan Abdizadeh, was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison by the First Branch of the Provincial Islamic Iranian Court of Appeals for partaking in these protests.
Ehsan had previously been sentenced by an Iranian Islamic court in Urmia to 24 years in prison and 74 lashes for the same protest, being charged with participating in the destruction and incitement of governmental property, causing riots and disturbing public order, insulting government officials and wasting government documents by burning, and harassment in the court. His sentence was later reduced to 6 years and 6 months by the court of appeal.
Till date, a total of 34 protestors were detained, being sentenced to a total of 503 years in prison, 1180 lashes and 27 Million Toman ($1100) fine.
