Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. More well-known of these cases are the Nirbhaya rape case (2012), Unnao rape case (2017), Kathaua rape case (2018) and the Hyderabad rape-murder case (2019) which expose the grim reality of sexual crimes committed against women in India.
According to the 2019 annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 32033 rape cases were registered across the country, or an average of 88 cases daily. A survey by Thomas Reuters Foundation in 2018 ranked India as the most dangerous country for women.
