REMILAN, ROJAVA
As part of a series of events being organized in the weeks coming up to November 25, International struggles against violence against women day, a seminar was organized in Remilan.
The seminar which begun with a moment of silence o commemorate the glorious martyrs of the revolution, was attended by over 160 young people. The seminar sparked debates and discussions in relation to systematical sexism and violence being faced by women. The young people shared their thoughts, giving examples from themselves or the women in their lives.
Generally, the young people agreed that they largely respect the women in their lives due to their relation to a man. While the young men expressed that their mothers are respected in the household for being a mother or a wife, the young women explained what the role of the women’s revolution in Rojava has meant.
One attendee shared that fathers are made to re-think before attempting to marry off their daughters at young ages for dowry. It was accepted that women have alternatives now, but that these need to be improved and strengthened throughout the entirety of society until it liberates every woman from the violence of the man and the state.
The young people were educated on their roles as young leaders in society to shape and form society on the basis of a woman’s liberationist idea. They were taught about the different forms of violence and where violence itself roots from.
