As we approach World Kobanê day on 1 November, the young people of Kobanê staged a play to highlight the meaning of Halloween for the Kurdish people. Explaining that as the rest of the world wear masks for one night in the name of creating fear, the fear which is being inflicted on the people of Kurdistan is permanent.
As we emerge world Kobanê day, huge attention is paid to the historic resistance which the streets of the city witnessed. As fascist dictators around the world claimed Kobanê would fall to the hands of ISIS any moment, the world mobilised in the small city standing against fascism. Kobanê became one of the few epics in history where the people mobilised as their states remained silent.
On the night which connects Halloween to World Kobanê day, the youth of Kobanê staged a silent play to spread the message that the feelings of horror and fear last longer than just one night in Kurdistan.
The activists represented tragedies which have been witnessed in different cities in Kurdistan.
Actors
An activist represented the Yazidi women’s who were sold as sex-slaves by ISIS in Şengal.
The young person seen holding a guitar to represent Baris Çakan who was stabbed in his heart by Turkish fascists in Ankara because he listened to Kurdish music.
The activist sitting by the “Qamişlo” label held up a photo of Martyr Zozan Şêxo who was killed in an explosion in Qamişlo market.
The person lying on the floor by a “Halabja” label represents a father who tried to cover a baby during a chemical attack known as the Halabja Massacre which was committed by Saddam Hussein. The attack killed five thousand Kurds, mostly children, women and old people, while from 7 to 10 thousand were wounded.
A mother sat by two children represents the children who starved to death while ISIS was attacking Kobanê, because the city was under embargo.
The child sitting by the Serêkanîye label is Muhammed Hamid who suffered severe burns after the Turkish state attacked the now-occupied city with chemicals.
The woman lying by the Efrîn sign represents a 16-year-old native of Efrin whose body was found mutilated and dumped under olive trees in the Azaz sub-district of Fairuziyah with three bullets in her body.
The woman sat by an Amed label represent the peace mothers who are known for their white headscarves which represent peace. The women are mothers of martyred guerrillas who have vowed to walk on the path of their children to ensure the freedom of Leader Apo and Kurdistan.
