MÊRDÎN, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
Tensions arose in Mêrdîn’s Mazıdağı district between locals and an electricity distribution company by the name of DEDAŞ.
The company attempted to regulate the electricity distribution in the area by placing electricity meters on the electricity poles, with the aid of a disproportionate force of riot police and armored vehicles. The locals reacted to the fascist police who attempted to drive around the neighborhoods unnecessarily, to create fear.
As the people reacted to the unnecessary presence of armored vehicles and riot police, tensions erupted between the locals and the enemy forces. The occupying police utilized the opportunity to attack the crowd with water cannons and tear gas. Many citizens were affected by the gas.
