Little Asmin is the child of a Kurdish family living in France and exiled to Central Anatolia in the 17th century. She is now 9, asking why she received n response from a letter she had written to the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan when she was 7 years old.
The letter of Asmin, which begins with the phrase “Serokê mîn, Apoyê mîn” [My president, my Apo], is as follows:
“Rojbaş, My name is Asmin. I have turned 9 and at the age of 7 I sent a letter to you. But every day I look at the box, and there was no letter from you, nothing.
My mother says that you wrote, but no, you couldn’t write. I will always wait, Serokê mîn.
I look at the sun when I miss you, my mother says, ‘When you miss our Leader, put your hand on your heart and look at the sun.’ Then I would see you.
I wish I had a magic wand to get you out of jail.
My mother cries when she looks at you, and I cry too.
I say to my mother, when I grow up, I will go to Serokê mîn.
When I go to sleep, I say goodnight to you. You say goodnight to me.
I feel you when I put my hand to my heart.
I miss you so much, I love you so much.
Serokê mîn, Apoyê mîn.”
