ISTANBUL, TURKEY

Members of the newly-formed United Youth Assembly, Volkan Atmaca and Esra Yeşilova made evaluations to our agency, expressing that it is the main duty of all young people to organise a joint struggle against the fascism of the AKP-MHP regime, and to build a free life.

Several youth organizations in Turkey and northern Kurdistan announced the initiation of a joint youth assembly, which was attacked by the fascist Turkish state. The youth assembly is formed of the Socialist Student Movement (SÖH), New Democratic Youth (YDG), Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), HDP Youth Assembly, Revolutionary Student Union (DÖB) and Dev-Güç (Revolutionary Forces of Youth). Members of these youth organizations, Volkan Atmaca and Esra Yeşilova,  spoke to Nûçe Ciwan agency about the formation of the assembly and the role of the youth.

New Democrat Youth (YDG) Member Volkan Atmaca spoke to our agency, explaining the following:

“The state has been in a cycle of constant aggression for the last 5 years. The state is trying to block all methods of a democratic struggle for rights. Alongside this, youth problems continue to grow enormously.

As the youth, our insistence on solving these problems and eliminating these problems must continue and strengthen with every problem we face. In fact, as those who do not kneel before the fascists, we are building the United Youth Assembly today. The founding of the United Youth Assembly was needed to fight and strengthen this struggle until we can build an equal, free future.”

Member of the Revolutionary Student Union (DÖP), Esra Yeşilova, stated that organizing the unified struggle of the youth against the AKP/MHP fascism is a fundamental task of the youth. The young woman explained that they took a step to organize the united youth struggle, recognizing this task as a responsibility.

Esra Yeşilova emphasized that in the past, the unified struggle of the youth against fascism had arisen from universities, high schools, streets and squares. She continued, “Today, we are walking together in many areas against fascism, and we will continue to walk from now on. The youth is an important dynamic of social struggle. We are trying to organize an important movement of social struggle by bringing together this dynamic of the youth as a fundamental dynamic of social struggle and mass movement. We are trying to complete our duty as a youth.”
