The commander for Peshmerga forces commander in Şengal, Qasim Şaşo, announced his resignation from both of his military position and his political position within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) ranks after he was not allowed to take part in a ceremony held to announce the spiritual leader of the Yazidi community two days ago.
Qasim Şaşo was the Administrator of KDP’s Branch 17 before he announced, “I have stepped down from the Peshmerga forces command and the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s administration in Sinjar (Şengal) because I was not respected,” he said. “I will not do political and military work again and will not commit to any parties onwards, whether the KDP accepts it or not.”
On November 14, the Yazidi Spiritual Council picked Ali Ilyas Haji Nasir as the new Baba Sheikh, which is the highest religious position in Yazidism, in an official ceremony, attended by over 250 tribal leaders and famed Yazidi figures, including Mir Hazim Tahsin Beg.
DISRESPECT
Qasim Şaşo, like all officials of the KDP, are unwanted in the now autonomous region of Şengal after the forces abandoned millions of defenseless Yazidi people under ISIS siege in 2014.
ISIS militants swept across Sheikhan, Sinjar and other predominately Yazidi-populated regions in early August 2014 and committed a genocidal campaign against the ethno-religious community. Thousands of Yazidis were murdered and another 6,000 were abducted by the militants after KDP-Turkey backed security forces fled the area. Thousands of women and girls were raped and sold into slavery, while men and boys were made to become forced laborers.
Some 3,000 Yazidis are still missing as the shameless KDP/Turkey government recently signed an agreement with the Iraqi government to regain control of the liberated area. The local people have continuously expressed their anger to the betraying KDP/Turkey alliance, as officials of the dirty duo are publically shamed being called “cowards.”
