COLOGNE, GERMANY
Members of JXK and TEKO-JIN expressed outrage in regard to increasing femicide rates in an action they organized in the busiest area of Cologne city. The activists stood in the city centre dressed in Halloween costumes holding banners and detesting crimes committed against women.
The young activists drew attention to the witch-hunts that have been continuing since the Middle Ages, against women, chanting “No to Killing”, “No to Patriarchy!”, “No to Life in a Cage!”
The youth unfurled banners written in German and Kurdish before reading the following statement:
“We live in an age where femicide is legitimized. In patriarchal societies, the ‘witch hunt’ was one of the biggest massacres inflicted on women who opposed the system. Today, these murders are portrayed as relationship drama and isolated cases.
Patriarchal societies fiercely try to silence all women struggling to determine their own destiny. Staying silent against this is an approach far from conscience and compassion.
With this action we organize, we want to protest the mentality of the ongoing objectification and enslavement of women, and to be the voices that women who were killed, enslaved, raped, and could not make it. ”
