Egîd Baran, a guerrilla of the HPG, reached out to his family who were camping outside the HDP municipality building in Amed. Egîd addressed his family, telling them to not fall into the trap of the AKP, he said: “Do not become a tool in these games; instead go and sit in front of the AKP building for peace.”
In an interview by ANF, guerrilla Egîd Baran called for his family to stop camping outside the HDP building in Amed. The sit-downs being conducted by several families is carried out on the basis of retrieving their children who were “abducted to the mountains by the HDP.” The narrative is one which was fabricated by the AKP regime to firstly criminalise the HDP, claiming that the pro-Kurdish political party is dispatching young people against their will to the mountains, to join the PKK. Secondly, after approximately 42 years of an unsuccessful war against the PKK, the Turkish state aims to defeat the guerrilla force by through their own families.
Ever since, countless guerrillas have appeared on TV channels and other media outlets to inform their families that they were not abducted, that they have joined the PKK with their own will and that most importantly the enemy is the people forcing them to sit outside the HDP building. Guerrilla Egîd Baran is another one of these guerrillas.
Despite his non-patriotic family
Egîd Baran was born in Amed in 2001 and is the son of a non-patriotic family. He lived in Turkish cities such as Antalya and Manisa; where he understood the implications of his identity as Kurd more clearly. Here, the pressure and impositions by his family begun to challenge him from an early age. Because they were Kurdish, Egîd and his family suffered dearly and faced cruelty and rejection in every field of life.
As the persecution worsened, so did his questioning. Egîd couldn’t make himself accept assimilation. He had an interest, curiosity and sympathy for the PKK since he was little. His curiosity and sympathy for the PKK compellingly increased with age, even despite his non-patriotic family. Accordingly, he made friends and he carried out actions.
He was touched reading about the character Martyr Commander Egîd. And young Egîd wanted to carry out actions and rebel like commander Egîd, he wanted to serve his people instead of living a life trying to be liked, or even accepted, by others. He could no longer accept pressure and persecution when he finally prepared himself and joined the guerrilla. He chose not to wear a shoe which does not fit.
“We joined knowingly and willingly”
Guerilla Egîd, in his interview, shared the following: “Our conscience and honour did not turn a blind eye, and we joined knowingly and willingly. The mothers sitting in front of the HDP City building are saying that the “PKK kidnapping our children by force”. We are here because we can no longer endure this persecution. We joined voluntarily, our family knows this very well.
Before I joined, I also wrote a letter to my family, talked to my family and told them that I joined voluntarily. Still, they fall into the enemy’s tricks and say that the “PKK is kidnapping our children” in front of the HDP city building. They know it’s not true.
The enemy has a special war policy. The focus of this is on guerrilla and martyr families. Nobody can be forced to join the guerrilla. In truth, it is the Turkish state that has forced military service. It is the Turkish state that makes war by force. We did not accept this.”
The young guerrilla concluded: “Let our parents not fall into the traps of the AKP and MHP, let them not fall into the games of the fascist Erdogan and become his toy in this special warfare.
If they insist, let them go and sit in front of the AKP City Building for peace. It is a call to all families there, especially my own family: Stand back, do not fall to Erdogan’s tricks. Do not be fooled by the undercover intelligence activities carried out in society, do not let them make you become spies, oppose them.”
