UN Representative to Libya, Stephanie Turco Williams, announced at the meeting held in Geneva that the parties reached an agreement on a permanent ceasefire in Libya. The deal particularly foresaw that the mercenaries who had been deployed by Turkey are sent back.
The United Nations (UN) announced that in Libya, where civil war has been going on for years, the Government of National Accord and the Libyan National Army led by Haftar have reached an agreement for a permanent ceasefire. The talks in Geneva had been continuing for 5 days. According to the deal, all mercenaries and foreign fighters will leave Libya within three months.
“This historic achievement represents an important turning point for peace and stability in Libya.” said Stephanie Turco Williams, the United Nations Special Envoy to Libya.
The talks will be followed by political discussions in Tunisia next month.
“Ceaseifire is a low level ceasefire”
Speaking about the permanent ceasefire between the forces in Libya, Erdogan said, “For me it has no credibility.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday questioned the viability of the permanent ceasefire signed between the Libyan forces. He said: “Today’s ceasefire agreement was actually not made at the highest level, it was at a lower level.”
