Iran, which involuntarily became a party to the Nagorno-Karabakh war was spotted sending 30 tanks to its border with the conflicted country. The developments came after Azerbaijan bombed Iranian territory on Thursday, despite clear warnings by Iranian officials to the Turkic nation.
The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan-Turkey continues in the Nagorno-Karabakh region as hostilities proceed to be heightened by the Turkish-Azerbaijani side. According to reports from the region, Iran is also ramping up forces on its border with the war-torn country to stop conflict from slipping into Iranian territory.
It was documented in the early hours of today that the Iranian state sent approximately 30 tanks to its border with Nagorno-Karabakh.
Iranian media had previously indicated that Tehran had taken action to protect its border by sending heavy armoured combat equipment – at least 200 Iranian tanks. Though the placement of tanks had been discussed, no practical steps were taken until today. The move came short after Azerbaijan bombarded the homes of civilians within the Iran border on Thursday.
At the start of the conflict, Iran had officially addressed Azerbaijan to not try to bring the conflict to Iranian territory. Tehran had warned that any attempt by Baku to violate the country’s territorial integrity will be costly to Azerbaijan. Many border violations have been recorded since the warning.
