Four members of the Parastin, the intelligence arm of the Kurdistan Regional Government, have been suspiciously killed over the past 20 days. Though some suspicious deaths have been pitted on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (the PKK), it is becoming increasingly clear that the killings are signs of an internal power struggle.
Four members of Parastin, including the Serzêr Customs Gate Public Security Manager, were killed in different places, times and ways over the past 20 days. While some of the more obvious murders were blamed on various organizations, the deaths which increase with each passing day are a sign of provocation and internal liquidation.
The suspicious deaths of members of Parastin intelligence
Muqadem Sirwan, a newer member to the Parastin, left his house in the Akre district of Duhok on the morning of September 29 and was not heard from again. It was later claimed he was abducted, though this information was not confirmed.
Raid Behzad, a member of the Parastin, was assassinated while travelling in a KIA branded white jeep in the Geliyê Alîbeg area of Diyana district of Hewlêr on October 6. His corpses were found in Alibeg water by the citizens living nearby.
Just one day after this incident, Dilman Ebdullah Ferac, the General Protection Officer of the Peshmerga, was found dead in a setting which resembled a car accident. The accident on the road to the district of Harir, the Shaqlawa road, was later discovered to be an assassination. The Parastin member was killed in his personal vehicle on October 7, while on his way home.
Nothing from authorities!
It drew attention that neither the KDP nor the regional government officials made a statement on the suspicious deaths and abductions of members of its intelligence arm. The press army owned by the KDP did not even report the killing of an important official such as the General Protection Officer of the Peshmerga Ministry.
The Serzêr Customs Gate Security Director, Gazi Salih, was reportedly assassinated by the MIT at which instance the media outlets close to the Turkish Intelligence service instantly blamed the killing on the PKK. The rumours which were spread though various social media circles failed to achieve the goal of creating legitimate grounds for conflict between the two Kurdish forces.
While such incidents are increasing in the Southern Kurdistan region, in areas where activity by the MIT is high, it has been learned that the MIT is trying to create an excuse for a war between the PKK and the Southern government with such provocative incidents.
In addition, people who could not be identified tried to spread the rumours that the murder of Serzêr Customs Gate Security Manager Gazi Salih was carried out by the PKK. While the KDP and regional government officials did not make any comments regarding these executions, the efforts and games of the MIT and its collaborators in Southern Kurdistan were attributed to the PKK through different social media accounts. The PKK quickly rejected all accusations and efforts of provocation in a statement released earlier today.
