The racist attack took place in the Quaregnon commune in the French-speaking Walloon Region of Belgium, on the Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday. The Kurdish youth was attacked in his house by eight Turkish nationalists on the grounds that he was vocal about his Kurdish identity on social media networks.
The Kurdish youth could only make the attackers leave the scene by pretending to be dead. It was reported that the young person, who was later taken into intensive care, had an unrecognizable face, had a brain trauma and was in critical condition.
Preliminary results from the investigation show that the attack was linked to the young person’s identity as a Kurd and that the attack took place after he posted a video on virtual networks.
While many attackers were detained after the attack, it was reported that three people are still wanted.
Belgium is among the European countries where racist Turkish organizations are the most intense. There have been many racist attacks and arson against the Kurds before. Among many leftist parties, there are elected officials (Turks) who deny the Armenian Genocide, have direct relations with racist Turkish movements and the Erdogan regime, make their propaganda, and use racist expressions systematically.
