COLOMBIA, BOGOTÁ
The Colombian Defence Minister announced the arrival of at least 300 soldiers to reinforce police operations in Bogotá. Colombian Defence Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo reported that the number of dead people increased to seven during the day of demonstrations against police abuse.
The report was confirmed by the general director of the National Police (E), major general Gustavo Alberto Moreno Maldonado. In addition to the five killed by the police, two injured people lost their lives after being placed in medical centres.
Defending Liberty
Likewise, the network Defending Liberty indicated the existence of more than 140 injured people, mostly due to the actions of the Police. For their part, social activists denounce that the capital of the country, Bogotá, is militarized.
The network Defend Liberty had reported in a bulletin that several people were injured by firearms during the protests against the murder of Colombian lawyer Javier Ordóñez by the police in the city of Bogotá.
The bulletin indicates that around 45 people were detained by the police forces. Several political and social organizations have denounced aggressions against human rights defenders and journalists by the police.
