SILÊMANÎ, SOUTHERN KURDISTAN
Jinên Ciwanên Tekoşer launched the ‘Em dibêjin NA (We say no)’ campaign against violence, harassment and rape against women and children. The campaign started with a football match played by young women. The 4-month campaign will continue with social activities, sports, artistic and intellectual actions.
A young woman named Lara Abbas, a member of Jinên Ciwanên Tekoşer, spoke to our agency about the campaign.
Lara stated that young women should claim their identity as women. She emphasised:
“We live in a society dominated by a male-dominated mentality. All the support and love of the woman is exploited. In the name of masculinity, women’s freedom is destroyed. There is daily harassment of young women and children. As young women from Bashure, Kurdistan, we launched a campaign called ‘We say no’.
We say no to isolation of women and no to harassment of children!
With this campaign, our aim is for young women to gain the freedom and rights which are wanted to be destroyed. We work with young women to be aware of their identity. “
