HPG press centre reported that the Turkish state deliberately targeted Iraqi army commanders who had come to resolve regional problems.
The HPG stated: “By rejecting a solution through dialogue, the Turkish state brutally attacked the vehicles on which the official Iraqi flag was hung.”
The attack was condemned in protest by the Iraqi Presidency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Parliament. Turkey’s Defense Minister’s visit was canceled. The Federal Kurdistan Government, on the other hand, could not even publish a message of condonement against the Turkish state.
Iraqi Border Guards (IBP) 2nd Border Division Commander Muhammed Reşid Süleyman and 3rd Union Commander Lieutenant Colonel Zübeyir Hali, who was affiliated with the 2nd Border Division Command Taceddin, were killed.
Lieutenant Colonel Hüsameddin Abdurrahman Hasan and a soldier were also injured. Lieutenant Colonel Muhsin Aziz from the Iraqi Border Guards 2nd Border Division said, “Turkish planes targeted us in the Bêrmey Dindaran region. We gave two martyrs.”
Soldiers who survived the attack said that the Iraqi Border Guards had established a new outpost on the borders of the towns of Sidekan and Hacı Omeran. It was reported that the commanders of the Iraqi Border Guard unit went to the village of Bêrmey Dindaran to talk to the PKK about the dialogue in this region.
Ethem Bas, who was in the area at the time of the attack, said: “After the meeting was over at around 15:00, Border Guards commanders were bombarded while getting into their cars. Three people were killed and two were injured at the scene. Two of those who lost their lives were Kurdish commanders from the Border Guard. In addition, a person responsible for PKK members named Heval Egîd died. ”
Reaction to the attack from Baghdad
In his statement, the Iraqi Presidential Spokesperson strongly condemned the attack. In the statement, which stated that Iraq’s territorial sovereignty and the United Nations agreement were violated, emphasized that the attack was also against neighborhood law.
“Iraq sees this act as a violation of the sovereignty and sanctity of the country and a hostile act that violates international conventions and laws governing relations between countries,” the Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a press release in the morning.
“Turkey should put an end to hostile acts. The repetition of such actions, the continuation of the violation of the Iraqi borders, and the failure to respond to the demands made for the withdrawal of Turkish forces that violated our borders are a reason to reconsider the relations between the two countries.
Akar’s visit to Iraq canceled
In the text, which emphasized that the arrival of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, who was expected to make a planned visit to Iraq within the scope of bilateral relations, was also canceled, the following was noted:
“We also announce that the Turkish Defense Minister’s visit to Iraq, which is scheduled for Thursday, has been canceled.”
The ministry has also summoned the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Fatih Yildiz, to hand him a “strong letter of protest,” the statement added.
Immediate response
Another reaction to the air strike came from the Iraqi Parliament. Deputy Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament Hasan Kerim Kabi stated that the bombardment seriously damaged the historical ties between Ankara and Baghdad, and emphasized that they described the attack as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.
“The repetition of these attacks is a clear violation of all international law and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. These violations must be responded to immediately,” he said.
Arab institutions condemned attack
President of the Arab Parliament Dr. Meshal bin Fahm El Salami condemned the operations and bombings. El Salami called for “immediate action” by the United Nations Security Council to stop Turkey’s attacks.
In his statement, Ahmed Abu Gayt, the Secretary General of the Arab League, said, “We condemn the Turkish bombing in the harshest way. We support every step that the Iraqi government will take internationally to stop the repeated Turkish military attacks on its territory and to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and stability,” he said.
Federal Kurdistan govt shares an embarrassing statement
An embarrassing statement was made by the Federal Kurdistan Government, attempting to please its owner, the Turkish state:
“The PKK andTurkey’s war in the Kurdistan Region continues and we repeat again that once they should not sacrifice our people …. We assure our people that the Government of the Kurdistan Region will, as always, use all its power and make an effort to remove this conflict from the Kurdistan Region. ”
Following the lowly response of the KRG, the HPG called for action against the occupying Turkish state, which was responded to by thousands of people who poured onto the streets of southern Kurdistan. It drew attention that the call made by the HPG came directly after the KRG shared their window-dressing statement. The Kurdistan region has been rocked by a wave of uprisings since the call, showing the KRG who the actualy authorithy of the region is.
