ISTANBUL, TURKEY
Tensions continue to rise against Turkish telecommunications company Turk Telekom, which verbally abused a Kurdish mother who wanted to terminate her contract with the company.
Mother Fevziye Başaran, who does not speak any language other than Kurdish, was abused by a fascist representative of the fascist telecommunications company. The mother was told that “the language of Turkey is Turkish” and that she should “go learn Turkish” if she wanted to terminate her contract.
Son of monther Barış Başaran who was translating for his mother during the call, spoke to Nûçe Cıwan about the scandal. Explaining the dialogue between them and the customer services, Barış explained that their anger is not towards the fascist remarks of the representative they spoke to but rather the fact that services are not provided in the Kurdish. Emphasising that 35 million Kurds live in northern Kurdistan, occupied by Turkey, Barış said: “Turk Telekom has to provide services in the Kurdish language.”
Tell your mum to go learn Turkish
Barış Başaran, who is from Batman and works in Istanbul, stated that his mother wanted to terminate her contract with Türk Telekom: “The customer service told me if you want to close the line, I need to talk to your mother. I said that my mother does not speak Turkish, but only Kurdish. On top of that, the customer services did not solve our problem. ”
Stating that they did not get any results in their first calls, Barış Başaran stated that in his second call, he asked his mother to repeat what he said in Turkish, but in this way the customer service said to his mother, “You are being directed by someone else, explain your problem yourself,” Barış Başaran stated that they were not able to get any results again.
Stating that he had called Turk Telekom for the third time, Barış Başaran explained; “I called Turk Telekom for the third time. I told them that my mother did not know Turkish but only Kurdish. Türk Telekom stated that they do not provide service in Kurdish, they provide services in Turkish, Arabic and English and that they can solve the problem in these languages. I said again, my mother does not speak Turkish, only Kurdish.
The representative said: ‘Turkey’s main language is Turkish, tell your mum to go learn Turkish. I told him that my mother is 65 years old and that it is not possible that she learns Turkish after this age. After that, Türk Telekom informed me that they could not solve the problem and told me to go to a store.”
