Mehmet Kaplan (19), who killed Zeynep Berna with his vehicle while driving intoxicated, without a license, was released shortly after being detained. Yesterday, the same person was named as the first suspect in the death of 17-year-old Duygu Delen. Mehmet, who has already been absolved, is the son of Bileç Kaplan, the owner of one of Turkey’s biggest carpet companies.
CCTV footage from Antep swept the internet yesterday, depicting the motionless body of a 17-year-old young woman smashing against the floor of the house of her former partner Mehmet Kaplan.
The death of Duygu Delen, who allegedly died after falling from the 4th floor of the house of Mehmet Kaplan, has sparked national outcry as the number of women supposedly committing suicide from the houses of their former partners continues to rise everyday.
Duygu’s autopsy report, as well as developments in the case, are being held secret while it has been alleged that murderer Mehmet has walked free of yet another murder.
Duygu’s friends reacted to the announcement of the incident as a case of suicide, and brought the event to the agenda with the hashtag # DuyguİçinAdalet (Justice For Duygu) on social media.
Who is Zeynep Berna Atay?
On the evening of January 16, a 35-year-old woman, the mother of a child, was killed while crossing a pedestrian crossing in Antep, after 19-year-old, intoxicated and unlicenced Mehmet Kaplan hit her.
The court on duty held that the defendant should be tried and was released pending trial on the condition that he will not leave his residence and is put under judicial control.
