The PKK Executive Committee shared a written statement regarding the anniversary of the August 15 Initiative and said, “As we enter the 37th year today, the PKK, Kurdish people and their friends are resisting and winning in the same line as the August 15 Breakthrough, to victory.”
In their statement, the PKK Executive Committee stated:
“We are welcoming the 36th anniversary of the historic 15 August 1984 Revolutionary Guerrilla Breakthrough, which was developed by our party under the leadership of Leader Apo, with the devastating blows that our heroic guerrilla forces hit the fascist-genocidal forces every day.
As a movement and people, we are nearing the 37th year of August 15, the year of Kurdish freedom, the year of heroic resistance and resurrection of freedom, a new year of breakthrough and victory.
We welcome the 36th anniversary of the glorious August 15 Leap by developing the revolutionary people’s war that has developed on the basis of joint resistance by the guerrillas and the people.
On this basis, we salute our heroic guerrilla and popular resistance initiated with the August 15 leap. We wholeheartedly congratulate all party comrades, especially Leader Apo, our patriotic people and our revolutionary-democratic friends, on August 15th, the day of Guerrilla, National Resurrection and Resistance.
We commemorate all the martyrs of the struggle for freedom with respect, love and gratitude in the persons of Comrades Agit and Zilan, the Immortal Commanders of the Historic Leap. In the 37th year of breakthrough, we repeat our promise that we will fight harder and win bigger in order to cherish their memories and achieve their goals.
We wish all those who fight for freedom and equality based on differences, justice, fraternity and democracy all the best in the 37th year of Kurdish Freedom.
Freedom
As it is known, the 15 August 1984 Eruh and Şemdinli actions, which are also known as “the first bullet”, constitute a definite milestone in terms of the history of Kurdistan. Under fascist, colonialist and genocidal aggression, the first bullet refers to the stopping of a history that was walking in the direction of national extinction. On the contrary, the first bullet marks the initiation of the history of Kurdish existence and freedom on the basis of guerrilla and popular resistance.
The August 15 Revolutionary Guerrilla Initiative, which fired a deadly bullet at all kinds of slavery and initiated a free life and democratic existence in Kurdistan, is a conscious, organized, extremely courageous and self-sacrificing, fight for freedom which has been ongoing for thirty-six years. This has created a public reality. Obviously, there can be no development more important and meaningful than these.
Undoubtedly, such a revolutionary breakthrough with historical significance has not been achieved cheaply or easily. On the basis of such a breaththrough lies the lessons learned by Leader Apo from the millennial struggles of the people of Kurdistan and the peoples of the world for freedom and democracy.
This historic revolutionary breakthrough was achieved and developed on the foundations of resistance amongst the youth and the people, created in the early 1970’s by Mahir Cayan, Deniz Gezmis and Ibrahim Kaypakkaya.
Again, such a breakthrough for freedom, existence and free life was developed by Leader Apo on the Newroz of 1973, where the Leader developed the revolutionary youth movement in Kurdistan under the name of ‘Kurdistan Revolutionists.’ This was followed by the historic Hilvan and Siverek resistance, the formation of the PKK, the activisties abroad in 1980-82 under the harshest conditions, and the 1982 Great Dungeon Resistance.
The line of ‘sacrifice for freedom’ was developed by Comrades Mazlum, Ferhat, Kemal, Hayri and Sara, who made the decision to resist, and the August 15 Revolutionary Leap, which resurrected the national honor, carried this decision to the mountains and to society.
“They won’t last 36 hours”
It is very clear that on the basis of the 15 August 1984 Revolutionary Guerrilla Initiative, the people of Kurdistan, starting from Bakur, to four parts of Kurdistan and abroad, led by the youth and women, waged the most difficult and costly war of freedom in history. In an environment where some said “they cannot even last 36 hours”, the guerrillas have fought continuously for 36 years against fascist-genocidal Turkish colonialism, the most barbarian reaction in history.
Not only were the guerrillas not defeated in such a war, it has made important gains in the Bakur, Rojava and Bashur parts of Kurdistan, more importantly, it has created an invincible line of resistance that always keeps the hopes of freedom alive.
The result of a 36-year uninterrupted revolutionary war for freedom in Kurdistan is clear. It is very clear that under everything that has been done and created in Kurdistan in the name of freedom for 36 years, there is the signature of the 15 August 1984 Revolutionary Guerrilla Leap.
First of all, it enlightened Kurdistan and the reality of the region and the world, and on this basis, the Leader revealed a reality that showed all the oppressed, especially women, the path to liberation and freedom.
This reality of the Leader, embodied in the person of Leader Apo and the martyrs, makes itself felt in a vanguard party such as the PKK and PAJK, in a self-defense force such as HPG and YJA-Star, It has existed in a democratic social movement organized along the lines of KCK, KJK and Komalên Ciwan.
The August 15 Revolutionary Guerrilla Leap carried out the National Resurrection Revolution in Kurdistan, it initiated the Women’s Freedom Revolution, led to the emergence of the current Kurdish status in Southern Kurdistan, ensured the realization of the Rojava Freedom Revolution, which is the hope of humanity, and revealed the main forces of the historical resistance against the international conspiracy for 22 years. . Undoubtedly, there can be no greater, significant and meaningful development and gain than these.

Today, as we look forward to the 37th year, the PKK, the Kurdish people and their friends are resisting and winning on the same line as the the August 15 breakthrough. First of all, AKP-MHP fascism, which is the enemy of our day, is just like the September 12 fascist-military regime, which was the enemy of the 1980s.
The September 12 fascist genocide regime created by the military coup is no different to the mentality and policy which is being followed by the fascist AKP-MHP administration today. The AKP-MHP administration operates as a rapist regime in Kurdistan attempting to achieve genocide, and operates as a regime of repression, terrorism and exploitation in Turkey.
Throughout the history of the peoples of the Republic of Turkey and Kurdistan there have never been more intense periods of insults, oppression, exploitation, humiliation and cruelty. The AKP-MHP fascism attacks all segments of the society, especially children and women, and imposes complete rape and massacre by directing its attacks to the sacred people of the society. It attempts to, on this basis, end society by destroying social honor, and this regime systemises what the September 12 regime imposed in the dundgeons of Diyarbakır. In short, fascist, colonialist and genocidal persecution is nothing more than this.
Undoubtedly, if the persecution has increased this much, the freedom and democratic resistance against it will develop. In fact, against the all-out special warfare being developed by the AKP-MHP fascism is being countered by the revolutionary people’s war in Turkey and Kurdistan under the HBDH and PKK.
The August 15 Revolutionary Breakthrough and Line of Victory, which defeated the fascist-military regime of September 12, is defeating the AKP-MHP fascism of today. From the “First Bullet” to “Cenga Haftanin”, the heroic guerrilla resistance continues to be the hope of salvation and victory for all the oppressed. From the actions of Eruh and Şemdinli to the wars of Serhat, Afrin, Xakurkê and Haftanin, the struggle for freedom and democracy continues in every field, from Van to the Istanbul and Aegean resistances, and every day strikes a blow to the AKP-MHP fascism.
It is very clear that the 37th August 15 will pass with great resistance by the guerrillas and the people like the previous 36 years. At first the guerrillas will resist, then self-defense will resist, followed by women and young people, and then democratic politics will resist. The resistance will spread from four parts of Kurdistan and Turkey to the Middle East, and the whole of the world.
This August 15 resistance, which develops on the Leap and Victory Line, will inflict fatal blows on AKP-MHP fascism and destroy it. It will turn the 37th Year of Leap into a year in which fascism collapsed and the struggle for freedom and democracy triumphed.
On this basis, we celebrate the August 15 of our Leader Apo, all our comrades, our people and our friends, and once again commemorate our heroic martyrs with respect, salute the 37th Leap Year, and call for all revolutionary and democratic forces to understand the August 15 Leap and Victory Line correctly.
We call on this line to defeat the fascist-genocidal regime by fighting with the August 15th Breakthrough and the Spirit of Victory in its 37th year of breakthrough, and wish all those who are fighting and resisting under the command of Agit and Zilan with superior success! “
