While a preliminary autopsy report into the death of 17-year-old Duygu Delen was not disclosed to the parties, Lawyer Akan shared the examinations of the pathologist despite the restrictions brought to the case.
Speaking to a reporter for a Turkish newspaper, the Gaziantep Bar Association Board member Ömer Faruk Akan said, “We could not get the preliminary autopsy report, but one of our physician friends from the Turkish Medical Association underwent the autopsy.
He stated that Duygu had beatings on her body that were not related to a fall. I also looked carefully at the suspect. She had a rash on her wrists,” he said.
Another suspicious death
The death of Duygu Delen, who allegedly died after falling from the 4th floor of the house of Mehmet Kaplan (19), has sparked national outcry as the number of women suspiciously committing suicide from the houses of their former partners continues to rise everyday.
Delen’s falling body was recorded by the surveillance cameras of the apartment and was presented as evidence that the young woman was killed before hitting the ground, as her falling body showed no reaction throughout the fall or contact.
Despite this not being the first murder committed by Mehmet, the son of a millionaire and CEO of Atlas Carpets, the murderer is still being protected by the State which brought restrictions to the disclosure of the autopsy report. Kaplan was also not arrested for the murder of Zeynep Berna Atay, a mother he ran over while driving unlicenced and intoxicated.
His excuse
After finally being arrested by the court on charges of “deliberate murder” and “sexual abuse of a child,” Kaplan stated that they broke up with Duygu Delen a while ago, but they came together to talk on the day of the incident, and claimed that the argument between them started because of a message from another woman.
Kaplan claimed that he also looked through Duygu Delen’s phone and saw photos of her with other men. Claiming that he got angry for this reason, the murderer stated that he hit the glass of the cabinet in the room and his hand was bleeding. Kaplan said in his statement: “I slapped Duygu with my bleeding hand. Duygu wanted to take the phone in my hand. There was a quarrel between us. Then I wanted to drink water and calm down. I went to wash my bleeding hand. When I turned to the children’s room, I saw that the balcony door was open and Duygu was not in the room. When I went to the balcony, I saw that Duygu was lying face down. I learned that she died while I was in custody. If I saw the moment of jumping, I would definitely have prevented her.”
