BEIRUT, LEBANON
Lebanese youth stormed the headquarters of the Lebanese ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry of Ecology and the ministry of Economy in downtown Beirut as part of mass protests that erupted four days after the capital’s port explosion, which killed more than 150 people, injured 6 thousand and displaced about 300 thousand people. The headquarters were declared as the headquarters of the revolution.
On Saturday, clashes erupted between angry protesters and security forces in the vicinity of the Lebanese Parliament in the center of Beirut just days after the Beirut port explosion which sparked popular discontent and anger against the country’s ruling class, amid chants condemning Hezbollah.
As angry youths threw stones at security forces, it was also reported that a group attempted to storm the parliament building.
Confrontations between protesters and riot police continue to escalate into violence as hundreds of people flock to areas of action to participate. Many public buildings and vehicles have been burnt by the protestors.
Video footage trending on social media shows a gathering of hundreds of protesters chanting slogans denouncing Hezbollah, which is loyal to Tehran and controls the port of Beirut, including, “A terrorist is a terrorist … Hezbollah is a terrorist.”
The protesters are calling for the current government to resign.
