“I greet you all on the 17th anniversary of the party. These years were the beginning years for the Kurdish people. This was a good start. Seventeen years ago, when we started working with a small group, there was nothing left in the name of Kurdishness in Kurdistan. The enemy was in control of Kurdistan to the end and was using this dominance to crush the Kurdish people.
As I remember today, when we started working on the name PKK, it was like a very unprepared person going up in the mountains. But; We didn’t say ‘will we fall?’ We said, “We will establish an honest party for these people, by putting our thoughts and our hearts together and we will be attached to it with good intentions”.
We did not have the power at that time, neither our friends nor the people were with us. We said, “These years should not be silent, a step should be taken for these people in this process.” We were very unprepared. I can even say that we had no plan-program or financial means. We had nothing but a few words to say about good intentions, and a few observations about the Kurdish reality, the reality of Kurdistan.
Till our last breath, we were saying, “We must establish a Kurdish party, a workers’ party, a revolutionary party.” We were not thinking about how it will be tomorrow, how the enemy will come upon us. The important thing for us was to take good steps in those days.
Seventeen years ago, we had a meeting that lasted for three or four days in a village in Diyarbakır with Comrades Mazlum, Hayri and Kemal. Half of those involved in this work were martyred, a few turned out to be traitors.
These steps, in seventeen years, flourished as a tree for the Kurdish people, and today anyone can enter the shade of this tree. In seventeen years, we gain what we have lost for centuries, we find our lost hearts, our people’s lost thoughts. We united the fragmented Kurdish reality, kneaded the stalled brains into consciousness, destroyed the great fear that had formed, and replaced it with courage. We removed what caused the Kurdish people to disappear in every way and replaced them with what was necessary for us.
At that time, persons were left without a people and the people without a homeland. No one considered themselves as a people, and a people did not see themselves as the owner of a homeland. This means that these people have also been annihilated.
When a person, or a people, has moved away from their reality, they have been annihilated, thye are used by another people. The enemy also looks at our people with this eye. We were worse than the flock of sheep in the eyes of the enemy. This was bad. The more one has fallen, the more he must fight for his freedom. It is this perspective which enlarges and strengthens.
What is meaningful and what is necessary for a people, what is unnecessary; We decided on these just in time and in the right place, we tried to learn, and finally brought ourselves to this point. Before eating and drinking, there are some things that are necessary for human beings, we have realized them.
As I said at the beginning, the people were not with us, we had neither a penny nor a gun. We were working with the last breaths we had. Our goodwill and thoughts, which we used well and properly, brought us to this stage.
A Kurd should never say ‘I am weak’, or ‘I am poor’. In our example, there is proof that you can do anything, no matter how alone you are, if you are honest and if you are committed to your word. These works were started without money and weapons. The biggest weapon of the Kurdish people is the PKK. If the whole world stands against these people, the PKK is enough for his fight. No matter how bloodsucking and strong the enemy is, they can be knocked down with this weapon.”
