As we approach the end of the summer camps, which are traditionally held every year in Europe to construct bridges between Kurdish youth living in Europe and their roots, the last camp of the year ended on 15 August.
Taking place between 8 – 15 August, the young people spent a week in the camp in France, living according to communal principles. Approximately 30 young people from Bordeaux, Marseille, Strasbourg and Paris spent a week in which they could integrate with nature, away from the imposations of capitalist modernity.
The first day was spent meeting young people from different cities and organising their time in the camp as well as assigning communual duties.
In the following days, seminars on “History of Kurdistan”, “Democratic Confederalism”, “Capitalism”, “Jineology” and “Women’s History” were held at certain hours. By forming working groups and preparing presentations on the topics they have determined, the young people stated that the discussions were fruitful.
The young people who played sports during the day took collectivity as a basis against the understanding of industrial sports by playing football, badminton and volleyball. By playing more communual games, the young people developed their team building skills.
The young people, waking up more excited with each new day, realized that by forming bands, theater workshops and choirs, they could be much more productive and entertained without depending on the internet and digital media. Many of the young people at the camp agreed that the internet only dulls the productivity and development of young people. The youth stated that one of the biggest benefits of the camp was to realize this.
After dinner, the young people, who organized a cinevision screening, stood around the fire they lit on some evenings, sang folk songs and read poems, accompanied by the Erbane.
The young people, who allocated the last day of the camp to environmental cleaning, said that they would participate in the next camp more excitedly and said goodbye to each other and ended the camp.
