HPG Press Centre shared the identity of the guerrilla who was martyred on 11 August after meeting with Iraqi government officials. Guerrilla Agit Garzan, who was the Xakurke State Command, was martyred with two Iraqi commanders following an attack by the terroirst Turkish state.
HPG shared the following details:
“In our statement dated 12 August, we shared that our comrade Agit Garzan, who was our Provincial Command for Xakurke, who held talks with Iraqi government officials on August 11, joined the caravan of martyrs as a result of the attack by the invading Turkish army targeting Iraqi forces.

In relation to Martyr Agit, the HPG expressed:
“Leader Apo’s statement that “we created this movement from nothing, like digging a well with needles” is a short sentence which represents the history of the freedom struggle.
The PKK is the movement of a people who have been put to death and have risen from their graves and now walk to victory with the philosophy of Leader Apo.
The leading heroes of this sacred struggle created the grounds for struggle by sacrificing themselves under the most difficult conditions. In addition, the PKK is the name of the tradition of struggle in which Leader Apo’s bouncer militants raised the flag of resistance in the sharpest period of our history. The martyrdom of our comrade Agit Garzan has once again revealed this reality.
Our comrade Agit Garzan has waged a lifelong struggle in the mountains of Kurdistan and has made an endless effort in the history of the freedom struggle of the people of Kurdistan. Our comrade Agit, who was born in Kars in 1975, joined the guerrilla ranks in Garzan in 1993, a period when the struggle for the Kurdish people’s movement was on the rise and our comrade became the owner of an uninterrupted resistance from the day he joined.
Our comrade Agit, who carried out his first practice as a guerrilla in Garzan, later became a legend by conducting guerrilla work in the Zagros Mountains for 18 years and later headed to Botan with his experience.
In the words of Comrade Agit, Botan, which is the place of the immortal commander Mahsum Korkmaz, is a sacred temple where the guerrilla was born and raised, where the Kurdish people’s hope for freedom was embodied in the person of the guerrilla.
During his 27 years of life as a guerrilla, our comrade Agit, has participated in countless actions, was injured many times, but did not leave the mountains of freedom for a moment. He has always been in the forefront with his devotion to the martyrs, the Leader and the resisting Kurdish people.
We wish our condolences to all the patriotic people of Kurdistan, especially the precious family of our comrade Agit, who was martyred, and we promise that we will take the revenge of our comrade Agit with the spirit of struggle he handed over to us, and that we will live revive his memory by carrying our struggle to victory.”
