Not a motivational success story
Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s shipowner son, Ahmet Burak Erdogan, came to the agenda on February 6, 2007, with the Safran 1 ship, which he bought for 2 million 350 thousand dollars. Erdogan, when he was Prime Minister, attempted to nullify criticism of his son’s purchase by saying: “There are ships, and then there are ships.”
After Erdogan’s words, the ships that his son Burak Erdogan bought continued to attract attention. The general cargo ship named M / V SAFRAN-1, which was built in Gemyat Shipyard in 1991 and has a carrying capacity of 4 thousand 495 DWT with a length of 96 meters and a width of 14 meters, was sold to FG Shipping Company, owned by Fahri Göncü, for 1 million 100 thousand dollars. This transaction cost the tax payer 1 million 250 thousand dollars, while over 4 million people are unemployed.
According to ANKA’s report, MB Denizcilik, of which Burak Erdoğan and Mecit Mert Çetinkaya are partners, increased its capital on February 18. The company increased its capital from 2 million 650 thousand liras to 5 million 300 thousand liras.
While Burak Erdogan had 4 million 420 thousand liras worth of shares, the share of his partner was 1 million 60 thousand liras. The company was founded in 2007 and its total capital was 50 thousand lira. The company also opened a branch in Istanbul Üsküdar.
Who is Burak Erdogan?
Little is known about Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s eldest son, Ahmet Burak Erdoğan. He’s a multimillionaire businessman who owns at least ten ships, but his companies do not have websites and there are only three photos of him on the internet.
He does not have any presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any other social media platform and does not comment on anything, even if it has shaken the entire country. He has remained quiet in do-or-die situations his father faced. For instance, he didn’t utter a word during or after the failed coup of July 15, 2016. He was the only family member that didn’t attend the swearing-in of his father after he was first elected president in 2014. He didn’t attend his grandmother’s funeral, nor did he share the joy of some of his siblings’ wedding ceremonies.
Unlike Erdogan’s other children, who are frequently seen in the media, Burak has been a total recluse for unknown reasons, deliberately eschewing any kind of social interaction.
He doesn’t live in Turkey. Stories, comments and tweets that mentioned his name were immediately deleted under court orders. There are no pages on Wikipedia’s Turkey site about him.
It has been widely speculated that his avoidance of public attention started after he hit Sevim Tanürek, a classical music singer, in a traffic accident in 1998. She subsequently died from her injuries.
