“Comdrade Şoreş (Revolution) was a friend from Kobani. It was possible to see many personality traits unique to the people of Kobani in him. In addition to his feudal aspects, he also had natural social, pure, clean, moral, unspoiled features in his personality. He came from a patriotic family. He stayed, grew up and worked in Aleppo. He was a friend who was stronger in practical work. His emotional direction was strong.
He joined the organization in 2009. He quickly adapted to the guerrilla environment and soon became a part of it. I got to know Heval Şoreş in 2010 in Haftanin. He was a young friend. He was tall and dark and had a lean physique. He had joined the organization on an emotional basis. He was not very talkative. But he was very hardworking. When I first got to know him, that aspect caught my attention. Wherever there was a job, he would definitely do it.
He was a humble, respectful, masterful person. Although he was young, he was quite mature. He was both a loved and respected friend in his environment. The combination of both the family he came from and the characteristics he received from his environment and the party (PKK) culture he received brought to light a truly moral and clean personality. Heval Şoreş joined life very naturally. There was never anxiety, hesitation or unclearness in Heval Şoreş. He was especially attached to the Leader and the martyrs.
He was not schooled, so he was illiterate. He didn’t feel the need much. We had constant discussions about this. I was telling him more that he had to be literate to understand the party, the Leader’s ideology. After joining the party, he started to feel a lack of it. He even tried for a while. But he said he did not understand and stopped. Sometimes he was browsing magazines and books in the room, looking at photographs. When he saw the photos of the martyrs, he asked the friends next to him: “What is the name of this friend, where is he, where was he martyred, when did he join?” etc. The friends constantly encouraged him to learn to read and write.
In the evenings of our stay, I was trying to persuade him and teach him letters and syllables. But he did not focus so much. He wanted to improve his practical, warrior side. He had an intense interest in this direction. He was constantly listening when the friends talked about their war memories. He had a great interest in weapons. “Why is the organization not sending me to the North, when can I go?” he was always asking.
Heval Şoreş had personality traits inherited from his family and social reality. Where there were female friends, he was neither talking, nor laughing, eating or drinking because he felt ashamed. There were normally no female friends in the place we stayed. But sometimes when they came to work with us, when they entered our place, heval Şoreş would wait outside until they came out.
When the women friends asked him questions, he responded with embarrassment and discomfort. Next to them he was constantly bowing his head. When I asked, “Why are you approaching this way?” he said he was “ashamed”.
But he also had great respect for female friends. During his first few months, he was having a hard time in this regard. It was about the reality of the society he came from. After that, he gradually surpassed it. In the person of Comrade Şoreş, one could see better how the PKK changed people and revealed their essence.
He was very interested in nature. He was watching the animals and collecting plants. He was doing this with great pleasure. The summer we stayed together, he had been in our garden the whole time. He went every day, watered the garden and took care of it. He was talking about the state of the garden every evening when we got together.
Heval Şoreş had not been contaminated by the dirt or the dust of capitalist modernity. That is why he was a sincere, natural, honest friend. You always wanted to stay with him.
I last saw Heval Şoreş in early 2012 in Xakurkê. He had become an advanced, trained, heavy weapons expert. The comrades he stayed with loved him very much. He was one of the friends who participated in the Şemzinan move from the beginning. His courage, sacrifice and determination were at the highest level in war, just like in life. He was always at the forefront. All of the comrades who knew him were saying he would be a great commander in the future.”
