“It was the fall of 2015. I had just come from Botan. I was bitter and it was difficult to leave. Maybe I had left physically, but I left my heart there with my comrades.
First I was in the field of Metina and then went to the field of Heftanin for a task. There was a friend I talked to constantly over the two-way radio before. She was taking her place in the Viyan correspondence. The sound of her voice created an image in my head. I knew she was a lively, hyperactive, warm-blooded friend from the tone of her voice, from the impact of her words.
When we went to Heftanin, a female friend who came to pick us up was smiling even from a distance. She caressed the heart with her warmth. I knew it was her at that exact moment. “Yes yes, that is her,” I said to myself. After greeting and shaking hands, I asked the name of the friend. Yes, I was not mistaken. This was Rugeş. I was excited when I introduced myself, we hugged each other again. Our hearts felt each other. Her heart was beating for Botan, just like mine.
She was burning for Botan, the heart of Kurdistan, the lands of the Resuls, the Adıls, Gülbahars and Egids, whom she had never even seen before.
When we got to the place, she immediately made tea. She met us in the correspondence base. We started conversing with our hot tea. All her questions were about Botan. Again, my memories were freshening up before they got old. I was reliving the memories, even though some of it hurt me, it was filled with inexplanable happiness.
It feels like I have known Rugeş for years, she seemed no stranger to me. Her warm companionship and smiling face appealed to my heart and took a place. Every time I went to Haftanin, I wasn’t leaving without seeing her anymore. Rugeş was a friend with experience and knowledge. She also had a strong stance in the ideology of women’s liberation.
Though she was in the field of communication, she would not remain still. She would help out wherever she could. She would read whenever she found the opportunity. She had a unique heart. As one gets to know her, one enthusiastically wants to enter her world and know more. And yes, all the Northern fields, especially Botan, need such a friend.
We went (to the North) as groups in 2016, first we went with the Botan group for a study. I was so glad to see Rugeş’s smiling face when I looked around. I could hear her excited voice that he had been imposing for a long time, to go to the North and even though it was forced, her wish was fulfilled.
I got up and went towards her. “I told you, I will go, I will not leave my dreams, I will meet Botan” she said. Her words are fresh in my ears as if I just heard them… I can never forget.
There are untimely losses in our lives. Rugeş was one of them. Her untimely departure, if she had not been martyred, would have done many things for the Party. Our duty is to fulfill this burden with honor. Each friend symbolizes a different color. Only when these colors come together and are complete, it becomes “jîn” (life).
I am challenging your untimely departure, heval (comrade) … my rebellion is so fierce because of all the untimely departures. My struggle to be worthy, to truly live and keep alive. I promise to carry you, the flag of all martyrs in your person, to the peaks of victory.”
